For eighteen year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. Up until recently, she has been incapable of feeling emotion. And when she’s around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life. But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma’s life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn’t be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

My review:  The first thing I want to say about this book is that the premise was so different!! Gemma is a girl without emotions; the whole idea just seemed weird at first. How can she have no friends? Then one day she felt her first “prickle” and she started having feelings like enjoying music, sadness and even having a crush because of the hot new guy at school. The gorgeous new guy, Alex, and Gemma literally have electricity between them even though he is awful to her. She can tell he feels it too. Very intriguing!

Before long Gemma’s nightmares turn into reality when the Death Walkers with yellow eyes chase her…or is it her imagination? The school field trip is the turning point where Gemma gets thrown into a world of Keepers, Forseers, Death Walkers and all sorts of other scary things as she starts to learn who she is and bits and pieces of her past.I knew I didn’t like Marco or Sophia either….I still want to know more about them! Hopefully the next book will have them in it. It also seems like Alex can’t be trusted…I’m still holding out hope for him. I don’t know if Laylen really needed to be a vampire, it just seemed to add another layer to the story and I’m not sure if he could have just been an outcast instead. Either way, it didn’t affect how much I enjoyed the book-it just seemed like an added distraction. The book ends with a major cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read the next one, which is called The Underworld (Volume 2, Fallen Star Series) will be released on this summer.
