It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
Celeste put Angelfall on the top shelf
Celeste’s Review: A post apocalyptic setting and angels; this book is a total WIN. I read this book in 2 sittings. I was up into the wee hours because I didn’t even realize I was turning the pages. Penryn, her mother and her 7 year old sister Paige are hiding out from street gangs and the angels that destroyed the world as we know it. They decide to make a run for it to get out of the city and into the hills, but angels swoop down and take away little 7 year old Paige. Penryn is horrified, but as she turns around she sees another sight that she can’t take her eyes away from: an angel getting attacked by other angels. She is able to rescue him, much to both their surprise. The reason she is able to do so is quite special.
The absolutely gorgeous, swoon-worthy and mysterious angel, Raffe, and Penryn reluctantly team up since they both want to get to the same place: the angels’ aerie where Paige might be held. This is the story of their journey.
I loved Penryn. Adored her. She is a smart and brave heroine, yet not a foolish one. She weighs every danger, but the love she has for her little sister outranks any fear she has of failing. Without spoiling, she helps Raffe and he, in turn, helps her. A twisting tale that had me hooked from the start. The ending had me cringing and biting my nails, but I still kept reading…….so awful, yet so tender at times. There is a slow burning romance where even one kiss was killing me. Wow, what a description!!! This book is a perfect example of why I love slow burning love stories. It is so powerful and then heart wrenching, but the chemistry is undeniable.
While Penryn and Raffe are characters I love to read about, I found myself loving the secondary characters like Josiah, Layla, Dee-Dum and Obi as well. The whole story was entertaining and fast paced. The ending left me dying for the next installment; I feel like the story is really gearing up now that I know and love so many of the characters. For all my dystopian loving friends, this post apocalyptic book is a must read!
