Author: Veronica Rossi
Series: Under the Never Sky
Publisher: Harper Collins
Published: January 8, 2013
From the Publisher: It’s been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don’t take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe’s precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.
Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?
In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a captivating love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.
**Christina and Celeste each got wicked lucky and received ARCs of Through the Ever Night.
While we were super stoked that did not influence the review**
Let’s start with the trailer
Celeste: I could not wait to jump back into this world! It began with Peregrine and Aria reuniting…but the reunion was so short lived that
I they didn’t have time to enjoy one another. I had fairly high expectations going into this installment since Under The Never Sky had blown me away. I should have just sat back and relaxed and read….but I didn’t and I think that is why I struggled in the beginning a bit. This book sets the scene for book 3, but we could not get to book 3 without Through The Ever Night. Yes, I loved this even though the first half was slow, and the ending had me flipping through the pages as fast as I could!
Christina: My first thought upon seeing the cover was “Dude. That is not my Perry.” But then the guy is still attractive so I kept it moving. After having just finished Under the Never Sky, I was very much looking forward to the next installment because I just knew that Perry and Aria were about to get all the cuddles in after a very… *ahem* exciting, extended reunion, if you know what I’m saying. (Oh yeah, you know what I’m saying. Brownchickenbrowncow.) So, imagine my surprise when that’s not what we got at all. I may have pouted a tiny bit, but I settled in anyways. Good thing, too, because so much happens in this story. It heads in a billion directions, but it made for an enthralling read. That being said, I couldn’t help feeling like we didn’t have near enough Perry-Aria one-on-one time
, and by one-on-one time I mean I wanted more kissing.
The Heroine and Hero:
Celeste: Both Perry and Aria come into their own in this story; Perry truly becomes the Blood Lord for The Tides, and Aria is able to rescue innocent people. As they each find their way, they do it naturally…making mistakes along the way they regret, but learn from. They both want to save so many people, and then find a way to the Still Blue….quite a heavy burden for them to take on. As much as I wanted some kissy time, there just wasn’t a moment for it. Now don’t worry, there’s still plenty of romance in this book and I’m hoping to see even more of it in the next book. Perry and Aria are a great team in more ways than one.
Christina: I can’t say that I liked that each of their responsibilities pulled them in opposite directions because it kept them apart for so much of the story, but I have to admit that I did appreciate the character growth they both experienced in this installment. Like Celeste stated above, it was nice to see them fall into their roles despite their mistakes, and learned what it takes to become leaders in their own right. That being said, when they were together, Rossi played up their time shared together nicely. I do love their chemistry. *sizzle*
Roar and Liv:
Celeste: I loved them! The relationship between them is obvious, but I think I might even love the friendship between Aria and Roar. It’s so intimate and they are truly friends. Also, get your tissues ready. That is all.
Christina: Wow, I love them separately, but put them together and their affection for one another will spark the page. It’s always nice when you can feel the intensity of the characters’ emotions and not just read it on the page. Their relationship has it in spades. I, too, love Roar and Aria’s friendship. There’s a deep fondness between them that almost speaks of a really strong brotherly-sisterly love.
Twists and Turns:
Celeste: OOOOH. Normally it’s a good guy gone bad, but this was not the case here. I’m still a tiny bit skeptical of this character, that maybe deals were kept for ulterior motives….we shall see in book 3!
Christina: Same here! It’s usually not surprising to see a friend turn into a foe in novels, especially in YA, but to see a foe turned friend was a refreshing change. I’m still a little weary about this character and how this development will play out in the third installment. My gut tells me there will be an epic showdown in the next novel between two strong-willed figureheads.
Celeste: Loved it!
Christina: Appropriate title is appropriate!
Celeste: WOW. Action packed. So much happened I could barely catch my breath and I loved it. The scene has totally been set and the next book is going to be so good!!
Christina: Holy whoa! My pulse was pounding the entire time. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings!
Celeste: Absolutely. *whispers* I enjoyed Under The Never Sky a bit more, but I still love this story and am already anticipating the next book.
Christina: Yes. *whispers* Hey, Ms. Rossi, maybe you can let Aria & Perry have a little more alone time in the next book. Please and thank you.
