From the Publisher: What happens when you’re stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.
Pagan Moore doesn’t cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.
Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn’t let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he’s dead.
Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn’t realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.
He is Death and he’s about to break all the rules.
Initial reaction: YES *fist pump* This is exactly the type of book I love. Existence sucked me in from page 1 and never let up.
A strong storyline + heavy dose of romance = WIN.
The story: Pagan can see souls, but she has always ignored them so they move on. But everything changes the day she sees Dank and he actually talks to her. That never happened before as the souls have always been silent. Soon a blonde soul talks to her, but that one frightens Pagan. This story is about how Pagan learns more about these souls and exactly how she is involved.
Pagan: She is someone I’d really want to be friends with in real life! She has a quiet confidence I adore. She also has feelings so vivid that I swear I can feel them myself.
Dank: Sweet lawd, yahhhhhh mama! Hot, in a band, deep voice, perfect body, so. freaking. confident. For reasons we aren’t aware of he must not give into his feelings…..so you know what that means: I LOVE his self-control and Dank has sky-rocketed into sexy mofo status. He is also fiercely protective. Rawr! or should I say growl?
The romance: Through the roof! I could not read fast enough. The physical attraction was off the charts. My favorite scenario is when circumstances prevent the couple from being together. And this was it! The intensity, the lust, the chemistry….all were just so unfffff. I love how Pagan got to Dank and he just could not resist her.
I should also mention Leif here. I guess I wish they were only friends. Clearly, they have to break up, which gives the story a bit of a love triangle feel. He could have been there for Pagan as a friend and the story would be the same.
Gripes? THE NAMES ARE SO BAD. Pagan? *cringe* I’m a big believer in names with nice meanings and this name was weird to me. Dank? ugh. Like a dank, dark basement corner. Both so bad, but I hope it tells you how awesome the story is because I still freaking loved them both.
Some other bits I want to touch on:
- BFF love: Miranda was meh. Bit on the annoying side with no value. I’m curious to see her role as the story continues in the next book.
- Title love: This title is so perfect!! I loved it in every way. It just fit. All Dank can do is exist….
- F-bomb love: Perfect! Just enough to be totally hot.
The ending: WOW! Holy crap!! I have all the thoughts and need to know more….now!!
Rec it? YES! This book went from wicked good to insanely good. I could not put the book down and fell in love with the characters. Abbi Glines is now one of my favorite authors!
