Story Synopsis: Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.
Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.
When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.
Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.
Amy and Celeste: Hi Stacey and Eli! We are insanely excited to chat with you both today! We’ll try our best to contain (the crazy) ourselves and behave . . . *laughs loudly* Who are we kidding?! No we won’t! Bring on the naughtiness!
Stacey: Behaving is boring!
Eli: I’m all for you girls bringing on the naughtiness. That is trait I tend to like in women.
Amy and Celeste:
OMG he’s so hot! *fans each other* So, Stacey . . . Was Eli hard to work with? *whispers* We know he’s a little (A LOT) testy (and sexy as all get out!) and that’s gotta be challenging to channel, yes? Or do you guys have a good relationship?
Stacey: He’s a serious pain in my ass, but sadly he knows I tend to like him that way! *Makes Eli plug his ears* He doesn’t need to hear this, his ego is big enough! Eli is one of my favorite characters because that boy has so many layers. He’s like a walking contradiction. And I barely scratched the surface of him in Book One. In DOL he is sarcastic, blunt, harsh, and sometimes cruel. That will never go away, but in Book Two we find out more why. He is upfront and honest about the fact that he is not a nice guy. But do we girls ever real listen? We always want to believe there is more underneath. Usually there isn’t. Not the case with Eli though. He will never be a sweet guy. That is not who he is, nor will it ever be and that’s what makes him difficult to write at times. There is a fine line between keeping him true to his personality and how he would respond, to fans thinking he is too much of an asshole. But, one thing Eli is not is one dimensional. Most of his harsh words and reaction stem from deep fear. He does not handle emotion well and his way of dealing with it is to push people away or hurt them so they will leave first. Not that he is always aware of this. He is good at cutting off his feelings. There are things in his past, a lot of skeletons hanging in his closet, so to speak that we learn more about in Book Two. His reactions and treatment of Ember is more than what you think. But having that come across can be tricky. Some might find him too much and think Ember deserves better. Maybe she does, maybe she doesn’t. That’s for her to figure out. Though don’t for one minute pity Ember. She isn’t the typical ingénue. She needs someone who challenges her every step of the way. Ember would steamroll over a “nice” guy!
Eli: Yeah, she would. Hell, she rolls over my ass half the time.
Stacey: You weren’t supposed to be listening.
Eli: I’m a bad, bad boy. Probably need a spanking.
Amy and Celeste: *DIES*
Amy and Celeste: Eli, we don’t really know too much about you. Well, besides the fact that you’re like king of the smoldering I-hate-you-but-I-want-you-and-I’m-going-to-devour-every-inch-of-you-and-you’re-gonna-LOVE-it glare. Can you tell us anything more about yourself? Maybe why you’re so moody 95% of the time?
Eli: I am more of a show than tell kind of guy . . . *gets an elbow in the ribs from Stacey* . . . I am a Dark Dweller. We eat, drink, kill, and fuck. We don’t talk about emotions.
Amy and Celeste: *drooling*
Stacey: Like I said, you will find out a little more about him in the next book and you will keep learning about him through the series. There is a lot more to him, but he’s a hard nut to crack (so many puns . . . so little time). He may be frustrating at times, but you will never be bored!
Eli! Seriously man.. The..uhhh…the angle on this pic is bad. Yeah.. it's terrible! *cough* We need to retake it stat! Celeste – get a camera. Eli – STRIP! *rubs hands together evilly* #wannarubhisabs
Amy and Celeste: So Eli, after learning more about your relationship with Sam, we’re starting to question if you’re really as… *cough* ‘promiscuous’ as we initially thought you were.. Is that all for show or have you had a bit of, um, fun?
Eli: I’ve never claimed to be a good or well-behaved. I am a Dark Dweller. Sex is in our nature. I’ve had my fun, but it was nothing more than that. Involvement means questions, emotions, and attachments. I’ve always been able to keep that line clear on my end. Then Brycin came along and blurred that line . . . *frustratingly runs his hand through his hair* . . . I can’t even see where that line used to be. Damn woman.
Amy and Celeste: Can we get a ride on your motorcycle?
Celeste: I go first!!
Amy: *evil side eyes Celeste* Stacey, have you ever been on it?
Eli: I have no problem taking you both for a ride . . . at the same time. Done it before. *gets another jab in ribs* What? They were twins. It would have been wrong to separate them.
Amy and Celeste: *shocked faces* *high fives each other*
Stacey: *Sighs heavily* Have I been on it? What are we talking about again? Whatever it is I’m going to plead the 5th.
Amy and Celeste: You look tense, Eli. Was the motorcycle question too much? Would you like us (or maybe just Amy . . . *looks innocent*) to massage you while we chat?
Eli: *smiles wickedly* Yeah I’m real tense . . . would you like me to show you where to massage?
Eli: What? She asked! I was just being a gentleman. Being a respectful guest. I don’t want to be rude.
Stacey: *Face palms* I should never let him out . . . ever.
Amy and Celeste: To be quite honest with you Eli, we don’t know how in the world you resist Ember. She’s gorgeous. Intriguing. Strong. That hair! Those eyes! (Wait, who has the crush here? WE DO!) What was going through that mind of yours the first time you saw her?
Eli: As much as I wanted to deny it, when I first saw Brycin in the police station, my initial instinct was to take the handcuffs off me and put them on her. Bend her over and fuck her senseless on Sheriff Weiss desk. How’s that for getting naughty? *grins roguishly*
Amy and Celeste: FTW! *incoherent blabbering*
Amy and Celeste: What did you think of the cover of the book? Did it capture Ember? Do you want to ravish her? (Feel free to get as graphic as you’d like, we appreciate honesty here at The Book Hookup! *winkwink*)
Eli: Honesty huh? Better put the kiddies to bed then… Most human men see a pretty girl and their thinking goes out the window. I am not human and more animal than not. My dick and brain go primitive…primal. You want to know exactly what I think when I look at that cover? *Leans forward, closer to Amy & Celeste* That look she’s giving makes me want to grab her by the hair, yank her head back and kiss her so deep that she forgets anything but the fact she wants me deep inside her. Claiming what is mine. Taking it in my mouth and driving her to the farthest edges of ecstasy. The desire so fervent and raw she is begging me to consume her, to drown under the weight and ferociousness of my body. Hot, wet, and pounding. *Licks his lips and smiles amused* Ravish her? That would be too simple. I want to fuck her so hard and for so long that my dick will think we moved in. *Sits back in chair* That’s at least some of what I was thinking when I saw that cover. Most of my thoughts would not be appropriate to say in an interview….
Amy: *stares at Eli with jaw hanging open* Hey C, can we seriously do more interviews like this? DED.
Amy and Celeste: Sooooo, Stacey has a Pinterest page for you.. Do you approve? Which is your favorite? Can you show us that same pose again? We think the photos may be a little blurry. Oh yeah. SUPER blurry.
Eli: I’m here to please. I just need a female model willing to help me. Any volunteers? Be odd to be alone in some of these poses. My favorite is whatever one shows me on my bike or on my girl.
Amy and Celeste: Whut? Seriously? *leap frogs over each other to get to Eli*
Amy and Celeste: Darkness of Light was seriously fantastic Stacey. We love you. Your writing is phenomenal and we’re SO excited for Book 2. Can you tell us anything about what’s coming? Also, do you know what’s going to happen in the end of your series yet? What can readers expect?
Stacey: Thank you! There is so much coming up. All my characters probably want to kill me. Think they are plotting my death behind my back! Fire In The Darkness starts out 4 weeks after the “electrical storm.” Seattle is in turmoil and Ember is on the run— from fae, gangs, and the Dark Dwellers. Remember the last thing she learned about Eli is that he was going to trade her to the Unseelie King. She can’t trust anyone. Her father is gone, her friends could be in danger if she goes near them. She’s alone. All she wants is to get Mark back from the Otherworld. How she doesn’t know, but she will figure it out. The first book was her finding out who and what she was, this book is more about her accepting it. Dealing with her powers and being true to herself no matter what prejudiced there are against her kind. Of course nothing goes smoothly for Em. Like DOL, it is hard to talk about FITD without giving things away. There is lots of twists and turns and OMG moments, which only increases in Book 3 (which I am currently writing). As the action and suspense escalates so does the heat and tension! As for the end of the series— there are two more books after FITD and things keep escalating and evolving for everyone. I do know how the series is going to end, but my characters have minds of their own. It could possibly change. The basic outline is there and they tell me how we are going to get there. They have the road map, I don’t!
Eli: Let’s be honest. You all just really want to know if there is going to be sex in the book, huh?
we Celeste wanted to know.. Lol
Amy and Celeste: One last question for Eli. Blondes or Brunettes?
Eli: Both. I don’t discriminate. I love all ladies—human and fae. All sizes and shapes. But, if you two want to cat-fight I’ll pick one just to see it *grins mischievously*
Stacey: *groans* I apologize for him. Next time I’ll muzzle him.
Amy and Celeste: Omg. We love him!
OH YEAH! #WeLoveEliForever
Amy and Celeste: Thank you both so much for helping us celebrate our 2nd blogiversary! It’s been epic! We can’t wait for Fire In The Darkness (Book 2) this fall!
Stacey: Thank you and congrats on your blogiversary! Seriously loved being here. You girls are awesome.
Eli: Now let’s go out and really celebrate. Who wants to ride with me?
Amy and Celeste: Hell yes! *runs away with Eli
