From the Publisher: A past hidden in darkness. Her present cloaked in secrets. The future holds the only truth that cannot be escaped.

After the mysterious and violent death of her parents, Blake Brennan finds comfort with an unconventional family. As the dramatic loss of her parents continues to haunt her—and hinders her from reciprocating love that others give freely—Blake embarks on a harrowing journey in search for the truth.

Living in a constant state of fear and need for control, vivid nightmares reveal details that lead to perilous situations. The past begins to collide with the present, and Blake must decide if the truth is worth losing the ones she loves.

Can love conquer all as her past comes to light? Or will Blake realize that there is no light in darkness?

First Thoughts: 3.5 stars Definitely an epic love story here, Blake and Cole have a love that is so very deep, but sadly it isn’t that easy.

Plot and Pacing: Blake Brennan can’t escape the nightmare of the night her parents were murdered. As much as she tries to move ahead, she can’t help but question what happened. The entire time she is loved by Cole Murphy. Unconditionally. This is their story of whether their love can survive the mysterious and painful past.

The pacing was OK. I was thrown by the jumps between present and past that alternated in many of the chapters. I’m not sure if I would have preferred Blake to just have a moment when she looked back instead of flipping back and forth in time.

The MCs: I loved, loved, loved Cole. He was smoking hot and totally in love with Blake. But when Blake wouldn’t have him, he needed some female attention…I didn’t blame him. I thought Blake was selfish for holding it against him for so long…..however, she has been so hurt and had so much pain in her life and she is only human so she is allowed to make decisions that maybe I think I might not make.

Romance /Chemistry: Pretty awesome. The way Cole loves Blake is To. Die. For. He loves her so deeply and unconditionally…and he is so freaking hot!

Title/Cover: The title is pretty accurate. Blake’s life really is so dark, even though there is some light. She just can’t seem to see the light. The cover is so very pretty. I love the soft colors, beautiful.

Twists and Turns: None for me, the story was fairly predictable. However, I don’t know the real reason Blake is sought after, so I might be surprised in the next book if that information is revealed.

Ending: I knew that was coming, but it didn’t make it any easier.

Gripes/suggestions: I had trouble keeping the characters straight for a while, but I did catch on. I almost felt like going back to reread so that I might enjoy the beginning of the story more. Honestly, I can’t put my finger on it, but something didn’t flow quite right with the plot for me. I think it is *this* close to being better, and a good editor could sort that out and turn this from a really good read to a fantastic read.

Final Thoughts/Rec It? I did like it, and I do want to read the next one…however, I have some other books to read first so I might hold off for a bit. Yes, I would rec it, it’s a good love story and everyone could use a little Cole Murphy in their lives!
