Title: Wicked Thing
Author: Angeline Kace @Angeline_Kace
Publisher: Accendo Press
Published: September 26, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Synopsis: Carmyn Rafferty witnessed the aftermath of her mother’s affair. She learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Especially not your spouse. So she’s planned. She’s planned every detail of her life: who her husband will be, what their careers will be, what their lives will be like. All to avoid the pain of infidelity.
Dallas Brown lives a life all his own. He doesn’t do relationships, he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, and he doesn’t live up to anyone’s expectations but his own.
When Carmyn’s fiancé cheats on her, it sends her into a whirlwind of one-night stands with the most infamous player on campus. She can’t seem to stay away from this tough guy and his dangerous motorcycle. Everything about him is the complete opposite of who she’d planned to fall in love with: tattoos, dark stubble along his jawline, and hair that brushes his shoulders.
As Dallas and Carmyn begin to fall deeper and deeper into each other, they learn that love can truly be a wicked, wicked thing.
First Thoughts: 4 stars This was a great love story between Carmyn and Dallas….and the chemistry was undeniable.
Plot, Pacing and Style: This was told in alternating POVs of Carmyn and Dallas, so we got a peek into both of their heads. In the beginning neither Carmyn or Dallas were interested in any type of serious relationship. However, once they met there were some serious sparks. Before they could fully commit to one another, they both had to work through issues from their own families and learn how to trust and not blame themselves for the faults of their parents. As soon as that happens both of their tunes started to change. The pacing was quick, and perfectly kept my interest. I read the whole thing in one sitting (and was pretty tired the next morning!).
The MCs: Ok, this is all going to sound harsh but read through to the end of this section to see where I’m coming from and then you will see it’s not that bad. First, I did the book blitz and there were some photos with quotes on them. Honestly, that image ruined Dallas for me. I tried so hard to start over in my head, but that guy was not Dallas and he had a spare tire. I also hated his name. However, I liked his personality and knew he was supposed to be hot, so I tried to think along those lines, not the Fabio ones. So even with all that I still loved Dallas…he was a total guy and he wasn’t perfect. I think his flaws are what made him so smexy.
Carmyn. So I just finished The Edge of Always and the MC there is Camryn. EEEK. Yah, I called this MC Camryn the whole time because that is what was in my head. I loved this one though and her spunkiness was awesome. She definitely was a little hypocritical with what she could do and what Dallas could do. She wanted him to face his demons but she wouldn’t face hers. This was her flaw and I loved seeing her work through it to get to the other side.
Romance /Chemistry: Undeniable from the get go. The attraction was immediate and pretty hot! Soon both Dallas and Carmyn realized they had something more than physical and that is when the story got really, really, REALLY good.
Title/Cover: Let’s be real, I jumped on this book because of the cover and the title. The title worked perfectly with the story, and the cover is so pretty and romantic.
Ending: We got our HEA but I think they jumped the gun. I don’t think it needed to be wrapped up that much. They haven’t been together long enough.
Gripes/suggestions: Too much cheesy wording with the sex…maybe some people like those “bodice ripper” type words but they are kind of on the cheesy side to me. However, it certainly didn’t ruin the story, I just could have lived without it.
Final Thoughts/Rec It? Yes, it’s a great quick read and Ms. Kace writes characters that you wish you could meet in real life. I will definitely be picking up more of her books!
About the author: Angeline is a Scorpio living in the Rocky Mountains with her husband and dogs. She loves all things paranormal, believes ghosts are real, werewolves aren’t, and vampires? Definitely real! At least in the Vampire Born world they are. She is currently at work on her first New Adult Romance, Wicked Thing, which releases September 2013.
