Title:  Four Seconds to Lose

Series:  Ten Tiny Breaths

Author:  K.A. Tucker

Published:  November 2013

When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths.

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can’t get distracted by romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

Ana will put Four Seconds to Lose on her top shelf!!

My Review:  Cain runs a strip club.  Cain values women.  Cain is a fighter with a quick temper.  Cain is caring and charming.  Cain is a bad boy.  Cain is a good guy.  Cain won my heart.  And there you have it…

When I enjoy a book, it typically falls into one of two categories.  The first is a book that catches my attention and I make time to read because it moves me in some way.  The second is a book that grabs me and holds on so tight that I can’t look away until I’m done.  Four Seconds to Lose definitely fell into the second category.  The storyline with it’s mysteries and angst, the characters with their contradictions and magnetism and the raw emotions throughout made this book one I couldn’t put down!

We’ve met Cain before.  He’s a secondary character in both Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie but he’s quite the mystery in both those books.  We get just a tiny glimpse at this man in both those stories and are left wanting more.  Thankfully, we get much more here.  He’s a contradiction…a character that we shouldn’t even like.  After all, strip club owners aren’t high on my wish list for leading men.  But, there’s more to him than that and now we’re taken deep into his past and shown the depth of his story.  And there’s no turning back once he lets us in.

Now, before this becomes a review about Cain (is it too late already?!?), I have to let you know that I also enjoyed the other characters and, of course, the storyline.  Charlie is a lost girl.  She’s stronger than she gives herself credit for but she’s stuck in a seemingly unrepairable situation.  Her secrets run deep and her future is unsure.  And when these two meet, the sparks fly! The secondary characters (most of whom we’ve met before) including Nate, Ben, Storm and Dan all make an appearance and ensure that this feels not like something completely new  but like the next adventure for this haphazard “family”.

As always, the writing is smooth, the pace is perfect and the story draws you in.  You must read these books!  Ms. Tucker has done it again and I can’t wait for the next chapter in this story because I feel connected to these characters and this world.  I’ve heard that the next book is Ben’s story and that *gasp* it may be the last one.  Nooooooo….I feel like we must take on the task of convincing the author that Nate also needs a book…who’s with me?!?! *hands out the petition for signatures*
