Celeste and Ana will put The Faerie War on their second shelf!

First thoughts:

Celeste: 4 stars This final installment wrapped up the Creepy Hollow series in a nice tidy package. I love the world Ms. Morgan has created, her talent at world building is exceptional. I truly felt transported to this realm with every installment, and this one was no exception.

Ana:  4 stars  I always hate to read the final book in a series because I’m terrified to be disappointed!  However, this book was anything but disappointing.  Lots of adventure, some mystery and romance, plus great characters make it a wonderful read.

The Story:

Celeste:  This story is about surviving the destruction that Draven has inflicted upon anyone who doesn’t side with him. Violet’s home has been destroyed and she has lost all her memories. Seeming to be up against all odds, Violet still has her strengths and knows the right thing to do is fight for what is right, and part of that is fulfilling her role in the prophecy.  There were plenty of layers to this story, which I loved. At first I had a hard time remembering what had happened when book 2 ended, but I have to hand it to the author as she did a fantastic job of getting me right back into the story, and pretty soon it felt like I never missed a beat.

There were a few twists and turns. I had predicted 2 of them so was probably a little bummed when I realized I was right. I really, really love to be shocked. There were a few people that I thought might turn out to be double crossers, but weren’t so that made me happy too. I have to admit that I love being suspicious of everyone.

Ana:  A lot happens in this story.  There’s the havoc that Draven has unleashed on Creepy Hollow, the relationships, new and old, the mystery of how to stay safe while still fighting for what’s right and the battle Violet faces to get her memories back…all of which make for an entertaining book.  I really enjoyed meeting new characters and learning more about this world and, of course, the fight between good and evil is very well written.

The Characters:

Celeste:  This story was told mainly from Violet’s POV, but we did get a small bit from Ryn’s. We got to feel his frustration as well as hers. I felt so badly for him, but knew there was nothing he could do.  I had always known Violet was strong, both inside and out, and I loved seeing her stay true to herself. We never saw Ryn waver either, and the situation in this book tested him many times over.

Ana:  I love Ryn and I felt so bad for him as I watched him deal with Vi’s memory loss.  But, even with that distraction, he was still brave and true…always looking out for Violet and wanting so badly to save everyone from the evil around them.  Violet has always been a strong character and that continued in this story.  She’s intelligent and strong beyond her years and her unwavering determination make her a hero I loved to read about.  The secondary characters, both old and new, rounded out the story nicely as well.

The Romance:

Celeste:  As far as the romance goes, I knew it was coming (again) but didn’t feel it as strongly, or close to my heart as before. I’m not sure why. It seemed to play a very minor part in this installment so maybe that is the reason.

Ana:  I love these two together and I have to say that I was very bummed when I found out that Vi didn’t remember anything from her past, not even how epic her love for Ryn was.  Ryn’s self-control was amazing.  He navigated this new “relationship” well, even when he was hurt by things that Vi had forgotten.  I spent a lot of time hoping this would work out for them because, of course, they need to be together!

Final Thoughts:

Celeste:  If you are looking for a series that will suck you in and take you away, Creepy Hollow is a must read. My favorite of the series is the second book, but I still loved this one as it gave me great closure. Ms. Morgan has a fantastic imagination and I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Ana:  This is a great series!  The world that the author creates and the characters who enhabit it are just fantastic.  If you’re looking for some action, some good vs. evil, some mystery, an amazing fantasy and characters you’ll love, pick up these books!
