Title: Carter Reed
Published: September 28, 2012
Synopsis: Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place.
First Thoughts: 5 HOLY CRAP OMG THAT WAS EPIC STARS Carter Reed is going down as one of my all time faves. It was so intense, dark, gritty, sexy, and epic. Hold me.
Plot, Setting, Pacing and Style: Refer to the synopsis for the plot. I’m not saying anything else. That synopsis drew me in like nobody’s business. If it appeals to you, this entire book will be crack. Crack!!
The setting is something else. What we all fantasize about. Endless money, apartments, clothes, drivers…you name it, it’s there.
The pacing was page turning delicious. I could not put this book down. It was so intense I just had to know what would happen next.
This story was told from Emma’s POV and once in a while 3rd person Carter. While I would have liked a peek into his thoughts, I’m pretty sure there’s no GD way Carter Reed would ever let anyone besides Emma in his head. I wonder though, what else has he shared with Tijan?? I’d love to pick her brain on this one.
The MCs: These protagonists are the ones I live for, the ones I salivate over. I’m not even sure if there are words for why I loved both Carter and Emma so much, but I just did. Kudos to Tijan for making them so amazing. They are both full of fight, controlled, and loyal to the end. Neither could be pushed into doing anything they didn’t want to.
Romance /Chemistry: This was once in a lifetime romance. Every single touch was on fire. Someone throw me in a cold shower..for the love of god!
We didn’t speak. I couldn’t. This man was mine.
Title/Cover: Tijan could have named this book a million and one witty things, but seriously, Carter Reed is so perfect I can’t even get over it. Pinch me it’s so genius. And pfftt, the cover? Hello. Sign. Me. Up. for a piece of that.
Twists and Turns: I was biting my nails waiting to see who was a traitor. Maybe “I” was a bad friend for suspecting a few, and I did suspect one, but never to the extent that it happened. I love to be shocked, and shocked I was.
Ending: It’s over? Hold me. I’m not mentally ready even though it tidied up nicely. I usually pray for companion books so I don’t have to give up a world an author created, but if I’m being serious, it actually needs to end here. Carter Reed can’t be topped and there’s no point in trying.
Gripes/suggestions: Ok, please keep in mind that this book is going down as one of my all time favortie books ever written. However, if I had to nitpick it would be this: why oh why was Carter always carrying Emma? She’s not a toddler and it was too much.
Final Thoughts/Rec It? YES YES YES. One of my most all time favorite books EVER EVER EVER.
