Synopisis: After surviving a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of her mother and brother, Evangeline made a promise to herself to never go back to the city filled with the memories of her tragic past. But when her estranged father suddenly falls ill, she has no choice but to return to New York and to the life she spent twelve years trying to avoid. Since the accident, heiress to the multi-billion dollar Montgomery Empire, Evangeline has always feared the media attention that comes with having the Montgomery name and would immediately give it all up if it meant the chance to bring back her loved ones. Delicate and camera shy, the last person she should have on her mind is a type of guy like Ryan Fox. Witty, extremely arrogant but undeniably good-looking are only a few words Evangeline can use to describe the New York Yankee’s hot-shot. The notorious bad boy― well-versed at playing the game both on and off the field― isn’t fazed about the media circus following his every move and couldn’t be anymore different to the quiet, shy girl that she is. So, what does a guy like him see in somebody as messed-up as her? And although everything about Ryan screams trouble with a capital T, why can’t Evangeline seem to stay away? It’s not until they’re away from the cameras that Evangeline begins to see the real man hiding behind the cocky facade- one that’s hurt and haunted by a dark and terrible secret. What will happen once Evangeline finds the courage to reveal what really happened on the evening her mother and brother died? And how will she react when she finally learns the truth about Ryan’s chilling past? Will baring their deepest secrets bring them closer together or will it tear them apart and have them sliding into darkness all over again?

**I received a copy of this book for the tour,
but that did not influence the review**

First Thoughts: 4 stars! Ryan Fox himself was a 5 star though. Slide is a great, sexy contemporary read to add to your collection!

.

Plot, Pacing and Style:  When we first meet Evangeline and Ryan they both seem to have it all: money, fame, and good looks. However, we all know that what we see isn’t always reality. Both of these characters have some serious demons to deal with, and once they start to share their secrets with each other they both begin to heal.

.

The pacing in this book was really good; I never felt bored or found the plot going in circles. The story kept moving ahead by giving the reader just a little bit more every chapter and I couldn’t help but turn the page. This book was told only from Evangeline’s POV, so everything we learned was on her time.

.
The MCs: I loved Ryan Fox. That is all. He is every woman’s dream piece of man meat. I actually pictured Derek Jeter the entire book, and yes, it worked for me. He oozed confidence on almost every level, except to himself, which made him so believable to me as he battled his own inner demons. It was as if he overcompensated on the outside to deal with his past. I also loved his persistence, he never gave up on Evangeline but gave her space when she needed it. He also embraced his own feelings really well, and was never afraid that it would make him less masculine… and I loved him for it.

.

I went back and forth about my feelings for Evangeline.  Sometimes I really liked her, and other times I wanted to strangle her for being foolish. The situation with Jessica was very obvious and all the conclusions that Evangeline jumped to were ridiculous. However, it actually made me love Ryan more because he put up with it.

.

As far as secondary characters go, I really didn’t care for Evangeline’s best friend Derek at all. Ryan hit the nail on the head with that one when he said he didn’t care for him either and was selfish. He didn’t really add any support to the story, or Evangeline for that matter, but maybe he had always been in her life so that’s why she still kept him as a close friend. I would have rather seen Connor, or even Gabriella as her supporting friend here.
.
Romance /Chemistry: It was immediate. And H-O-T. I think Mr. Fox had one thing on the brain and that was sex sex sex.

Title/Cover: I’m not sure I’m in love with either, but at the same time don’t dislike them. The title must be about baseball? But I’m not sure. The girl on the cover is attractive, but not how I pictured Evangeline.

Ending:We got a great HEA that was still really real. Very well done. Gripes/suggestions: Some of the writing was a little rough in the beginning, it just didn’t flow or draw me in. However, it got much smoother as the story went on and I really grew to love the story and the characters. I think Ms. Congdon found her groove and the whole thing took off so nicely.

There was also a weird little sexy scene in the beginning, when Evangeline cooked dinner for Ryan. Honestly, it was so dirty and I’m not sure if the point was to get the reader turned on, or show that Ryan Fox is one kinky mofo. If it was to show that Ryan was kinky I can make peace with it. Kind of. Not really sure. I do know Ryan is definitely naughty, *cough and I liked that about him a lot cough*.  If you know about my preferred reading style, it’s actually all the build up and talk, not the actual sex scenes themselves. Final Thoughts/Rec It? Yes! Will I read book 2? Well, in case you don’t know it’s going to be Slide from Ryan’s POV. Do I need to read the story again? Not really, but oh mah gawd I would love to hear the really dirty thoughts that run through his brain.

About the Author: Michelle Congdon resides in Sydney, Australia. Michelle is loud, talks a lot and shares an ever-growing list of fictional husbands with a friend. From when she was a small girl, she has always had an overactive imagination and has tried to put it to good use by sharing her stories with anyone willing to listen.
