A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power…

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it’s the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love…Love isn’t patient, love isn’t kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that’s how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I’ve never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I’m being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don’t regret.

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She’s the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she’s back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don’t know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she’s the closest I’ve ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Celeste and Ana will put The Thrill of It on their top shelf!

First thoughts:
Celeste: 4.5 stars Wow, The Thrill Of It was emotionally intense, dark, gritty, and just so different…and I loved it so much.

Ana: 4 Stars.  Quite a roller coaster ride.  This story had me exhausted by the end.  Two such broken people, yet so much hope in each of their hearts.  The angst, the insecurities and the tension played out on each page.

The Story/Plot:
Celeste: This book was definitely not your usual run of the mill New Adult story. Yes, we’ve seen sex addicts, but a sex addict that’s never have sex? Not what I was expecting. And then falls for a manwhore? Um, hello, sign me up. While seeming totally crazy, it also totally worked because, let’s face it, the setting was NYC, and it seems like anything can happen there, both magical and terrible. Top this story off with a writing style that was so smooth, and so descriptive…well, I couldn’t put the book down, and each page seemed to give me a little more, sometimes a little more heartache, but sometimes a little more love. Either way, I couldn’t get enough. Ms. Blakely has a way with words and I am now a huge fan.

Ana:  The plot was so different from anything I’ve ever read.  I mean…a virgin call girl?!?!  The entire situation was unique and, for the most part, it had me turning the pages quickly to find out what would happen next.  Honestly, I couldn’t begin to guess what the author had in store page after page.  Could they be any more broken?  Could they dig their way out of their situations?  Could they help each other get better?  I wanted to find out.  I am a fan of alternating POVs and it was done well here…definitely adding to the story.

The Characters:
Celeste: Both Trey and Harley are really quite strong, but each still lack that last bit of confidence in order to feel whole and worthy. It isn’t until they meet each other that the missing pieces fall into place. I love characters that can be labeled “damaged goods” and these two almost invented the roles. Their lives have so much baggage in them it amazes me that they even functioned at all. It almost seems unbelievable that their lives are that hollow, but what was so real was the way they felt about each other. I swear, both their friendship and love truly touched me from the second I met them together.

Ana:  I liked Trey and Harley individually and I liked them together.  They’re both stronger than they give themselves credit for.  I found it easier to like Trey than Harley though because I felt he was more focused on helping Harley than she was on helping him, at least initially.  Both their families were messed up and Harley’s mother in particular made me very angry.  I must admit that I found Cam to be quite creepy and I couldn’t quite understand how Harley didn’t see it.

The Romance:
Celeste: It was divine and perfect. Trey and Harley were connected on a level that was so deep and meaningful, and then sexual chemistry was off the charts.

“I’m tired of waiting for you,” I say, shedding all my walls. He knows all my secrets and lies. He can know my truth.

These two were so made for each other, just trust me on it, and the naughty bits weren’t even that crazy, yet they were crazy hot. Just read it!

Ana:  Hot and heavy at times…soft and sweet at others.  What was most interesting about it for me was that it felt innocent when, in reality, it should never have been that way.  Two people addicted to love and sex who, somehow, were like first timers with each other in every way.  For me, it felt like Trey was more committed to the relationship than Harley but maybe it was just her uncertainty about whether she could get better that clouded my view of the situation.

Final Thoughts:
Celeste: Ok, hear me out…I loved this book and I’m giving it a top shelf rating…but I did not like the ending. It came out of left field and instead of winding down it left me, the reader, wound up and scratching my head. I love surprises, twists and turns, etc, but this one just didn’t really sit right with me. However, I fell so in love with the characters and the story that I still want to give this book a really high rating. I’m going to have both Trey and Harley in my head for quite a while because they both really got to me. I almost think the story could have ended, and I think I would be happier if it did… but clearly Ms. Blakely has more in store for these two, and you can bet I can’t wait to read it and see what happens.

Ana:  This was a good read.  For me there was a lot here to enjoy…a great plot, lots of angst, believable characters and unique situations.  There were some parts that felt a bit repetitive to me but, as I look back, it made sense that the plot needed to move slowly at some points.  The one thing I’m unsure about is the ending.  It definitely lends itself to a second book which I’m not sure it needs to do.  This is a great stand-alone story and I’m not sure there’s enough there for another book.  But I’ll gladly let the author prove me wrong.
