Out of Time (Out of Line #2)

by Jen McLaughlin

Celeste read and raved about book 1, Out of Line, here
and it’s on sale right now for 99 pennies on Amazon!

BOOK SUMMARY: Desperate to keep him…

I’ve finally gotten everything I ever wanted: love, freedom, happiness, and, most importantly, Finn. Our love is everything I expected it to be and more. We’ve finally found each other, but the world seems determined to tear us apart. We thought my father was the only obstacle between us, but now it’s the military. With Finn’s departure looming, we’re squeezing in every moment together before we run out of time.

Trying to make every moment count…

Being Carrie’s bodyguard was one thing. Being her boyfriend is another. Every day she’s mine is a day the sun shines in my life. Yet our time together is running out. Her father will never think a tattooed Marine will be good enough so I’ll do with whatever it takes to be worthy of her love. But the road will take me away from the girl who makes me feel alive–the girl I can’t live without.

Time only gets us so far…

First Thoughts: 4 stars I love Finn, that is all.

Plot, Pacing and Style: I have to say, I loved the direction the story went in, and even though I’m finished I still have so many questions. Carrie and Finn are in love, although they aren’t supposed to be a couple. They believe their biggest threat is Carrie’s father finding out about their relationship, but it turns out that might be the least of their worries. This journey tests their love, and you won’t be disappointed.

The pacing was great, but it could have actually gone even slower for me because I love to draw things out. However, it did keep me turning the pages and I was up until midnight reading.

This had the dual POVs, but we actually didn’t get all the information I would have like to hear from Finn…and it drove me crazy. I wonder why he kept things secret from us readers?! They must have been big secrets and I’m dying to know…

The MCs: I love Finn and Carrie, both alone and even more together. They are both strong and never waver from what they believe in. No games, just love. They are totally committed to their relationship, and they both finally realize that they feel the same way and this is what really allows their relationship to grow into something more.

Romance /Chemistry: Definitely some sparks! However, I recommend reading book 1 and 2 back to back as it lost the slightest amount of sizzle for me in this one. The smexy times are hot, and the reason is that these two are just so in love.

Title/Cover: The title is perfect for so many reasons, I couldn’t imagine a better one. The cover is pretty and sweet, and it shows the tenderness between Finn and Carrie.

Twists and Turns: There are definitely some twists that I didn’t see coming. I don’t want to say which parts of the story, but they were mostly small ones, however, these really kept me turning the pages. While the overall storyline was not really anything new, the way it was written with little surprises kept it really fresh.

Ending: Oh man, it was a decent place to end this installment, but clearly the journey for Finn and Carrie is not even close to being over. I need more now, please!

Gripes/suggestions:  This is small, so small, but I didn’t like the nickname Ginger. See? That is like serious nitpicking.

Final Thoughts/Rec It? Yes, yes, yes!! This second book began testing Carrie and Finn’s love and commitment to one another, and did it in a way that will have you cheering them on as they strive for their happily ever after.
