Title: Before We Fall
Series: Beautifully Broken
Author: Courtney Cole
Published: December 2013
Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black…
For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He’s a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn’t care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.
23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn’t realize how much her father’s indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn’t one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it’s an absence of moments. She’s like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other… to fill the void that her father left in her.
Until she meets Dominic.
After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.
Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated… they’ve learned a priceless lesson.
Sometimes, before we fall… we fly.

My Review: Really, Courtney Cole…really?!?! How do you manage to write such broken, angsty, sexy men? Dominic Kinkaide and his story captured my attention from the very beginning. The mystery of his past, and the depth of his conviction that he is a bad person, had me turning the pages quickly so I could get to the bottom of it all.
Now, I’ll be honest. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about Dominic when I first started reading. After all, he’s very closed off to others and he’s into some mega kinky stuff (at least for an innocent girl like me…lol). I cringed at how he described himself and, worse yet, the fact that he felt he didn’t deserve to be happy. However, I was completely intrigued as well.
I guess I should move on from talking about Dominic for a bit to tell you that all the characters in this book were very well written. Jacey had her own demons but turned out to be a very strong heroine. And the supporting cast, specifically Sin, captured my attention as well. Experiencing the story from both Dominic and Jacey’s POVs ensured that I got to know them well. Their happiness, hurt, confusion and heartbreak were all right there for me to feel. As the book progressed I looked forward to going back and forth between their thoughts because it gave the story a lot of depth.
So much happens at the end of this book, so much is wrapped up, that I really wished it could have been a few pages longer. I needed to spend a few more minutes savoring how the characters got to the ending. I think you’ll know what I mean when you read it. Also, I must admit that I wasn’t too sure about the Epilogue. I see how it can add to the story but it took the book in another direction…one that I, personally, am not sure was necessary. However, don’t let these two small things influence you. This was a great book with wonderful characters and an intriguing storyline. Another great read from this awesome author…read it!
