Title: Lovely Vicious
Author: Sara Wolf
Series: Lovely Vicious
Published: November 5, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Synopsis: Fire meets ice. Love meets hate.
Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to the Buttcrack-of-Nowhere Ohio to help her mom escape a bad relationship.
All the girls in her new school want one thing – Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter’s never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he’s never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.
Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.
The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.

First Thoughts: 5 freaking stars people. FIVE. That was crazy. Raw. Messed up. Keep reading my review and you will see this wasn’t a straight shot to 5 stars…check out how this book earned that rating from me.
.Plot, Pacing, and Style: Isis Blake and her mom moved to Ohio to escape her mother’s ex. Isis also took it as a chance to start over from her own painful romance that left her scarred and vowing to never love again. At her new school no one knew that Isis had not only changed on the inside from being hurt, but she had also lost a lot of weight and physically looked so different. Since she wasn’t interested in ever falling in love ever again, she had no problem butting heads with the school’s heart throb, Jack Hunter. They totally go at it, and slowly the secrets get revealed as they both start to find a little happiness.
This book was told mainly from one POV, but not always, and was actually done in a way that was genius. It gave me information, yet still kept me in the dark and made me turn the pages like a crazy person so I could see what would happen next.
Main Characters: *rolls up sleeves* Ok, I actually didn’t care for the female protagonist, Isis Blake. She was so weird. And here it goes: ugh, not hot? I’m not sure. Yes, call me shallow, but I need my fictional characters to be pretty, at least through the eyes of the leading man, and I never got that. I also thought Isis was extremely annoying at times, yet I couldn’t stop reading, so maybe that’s not really a gripe but a fantastic job done by the author because I was still totally rooting for her the whole time. Conflicting much? Yes, which is why I loved this story so much.
Jack Hunter was hot, yes, I got that, but he was also deep, and damaged. Seriously damaged. I love baggage and Jack had trunkloads of it. He was divine. He seemed so in control, but I think he was one second away from losing it. I need more insight into his head!
Romance/Chemistry: It was bizarre, yet is worked like nobody’s business. I don’t want to spoil, but it was not all hot kisses and stolen looks, it was different and really good.
Title/Cover: So the title was really good, but you know what would have worked just a little better for me? Lovely and Vicious. I thought about it for a while and that flowed better for me because Jack Hunter was both lovely and vicious. The cover is so pretty, it makes me think of the fountain though, with the algae, and I LOL. I loved that scene.
Twists and Turns and Secrets: There were loads and loads of them. While we got a good idea of what was going on and were fed tidbits along the way, there are still massive secrets to be told. I’m still not even sure of one of the big ones, although I can guess, but I hope I’m wrong because it will make me so sad for Isis.
Ending: WHOA. Didn’t see that coming from a mile away. Really. Like all of it. Yes, a massive cliffhanger.
Gripes/suggestions: There were probably an excessive amount of exclamation points and sentences that were questions when they should have been statements.
Final Thoughts/Rec it? Yes, although I’m not going to lie, I was thinking while I was reading that parts of this story were a 3 star book. But then Ms. Wolf pulled it out and brought it home… and it went so far above and beyond that the 3 star was a twinkle in my eye as it catapulted to the top shelf of a 5 star. This story is gritty and flawed, yet delicious. You must read it. Can’t wait for book 2!
