Synopsis: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.” – Marianne Williamson
We live in a world of darkness and shadows, where monsters hide and aim to ruin. And they did. They ruined us and turned our dreams into nightmares. But now we’re back. And we’re fighting.
Not just for us, or for each other, but for our light.
4 stars I love Logan so much. *sigh* He is so swoony with his huge heart, he’s so damaged, so good, and so hot, too. I’m going to miss him! If you didn’t know, I have flailed over the first two books in this series, and this thrid one rounded out Logan’s story so nicely. I feel complete.
While Logan owns me, Amanda also has a pretty big piece of my heart. She is such a good person, and she forgave Logan so easily, because it was the right thing to do. She always told him when she was upset with him, it was as if she just wanted to reach into his soul and help him. However, he had some serious issues to work through, so while he realized that his life was so much better with her in it, happiness didn’t come easily. Their journey to finding their way to each other was a roller coaster, but oh so worth every ounce of heartache.
This leads me to the reason this heartache works so well: this book was not just words on a page. Both Logan and Amanda were built up slowly, I got to know them, fall in love with them, become them. I wasn’t thrown all sorts of facts about them from the beginning. Then, when we finally got to find out their secrets, we were sad too. But even when life started turning around, no one ever was magically cured, and that’s what made it so real. There was no quick fix, it was finding happiness in spite of having painful pasts. These characters were whole, real people to me.
I have to mention some of the secondary characters here. Ethan, Amanda’s brother is one. I adore him. I think he needs his own book, please!! I also have a huge soft spot for Logan’s dad. LOL, but he kind of needs his own book too. No really, I’m not joking. He needs his own book and lady friend. But now I also need to mention Lucy, and how I’m not really a fan of hers. I think she acts obnoxiously as a cover for insecurities. I have tried to like her, but I just don’t care for her at all. However, I’m guessing there’s a lot more to her story because she and Cam get their own book. I can’t wait to have my mind changed!
So yes, I loved this story, but I found not everything worked for me. One issue was when Amanda needed closure and said she needed to visit a certain person to get this closure. I didn’t get that. I also didn’t get the person’s reaction…it didn’t work with the rest of the story. I think that whole section could have been left out.
Would I rec this book? That is a huge, huge yes! I loved Jake & Mikaya’s story, and Logan & Amanda’s too. Ms. McLean has a gift with words, she writes love stories in a way that will make your heart hurt so much, but at the same time love so much too.
