Summary from Goodreads: Loving Chris Henderson would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every thought, every minute of every day …

He sure could kiss.

As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.

So that can only mean one thing: road trip!

No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.

She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?

After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.

Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.

Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.

**SPECIAL NOTE:** An eARC of this title was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review during this blog tour. However, that did not influence this review in any way. All thoughts, quotes, and opinions will be of this version and not of the published edition.

♥  Initial Thoughts and Rating: Actual rating of 4.5 stars! Damn, it really is the quiet ones that you have to watch out for because Chris has a bit of a mouth on him- one perfect at delivering swoony lines, naughty promises, and amazing kisses. The books in the series just keep getting better and better!

♥  The Lowdown: A great departure from our usual Onslow summer setting, this novel takes place while the gang heads out on a grand camping adventure to ring in the new year and the  new millennium in style before Sean and Chris take over the bar and hotel. Tammy Maskala has recently reconnected with her high school friend, Amy Henderson, and since Amy’s dating Sean, Tammy automatically gets adopted into the fold and becomes a part of the group. Initially, Tammy had decided to bow out of the trip because it was way too far out of her comfort zone, but a last minute decision lands her in the only available seat on the long and winding trip, and that’s in the beat-up van belonging to the moody and oh-so-serious Chris Henderson. But with so much time spent together and the Onslow group bringing about as much shenanigans as usual, Tammy and Chris learn a lot about each other and themselves on this long trip in close quarters.

My Thoughts: CJ Duggan has won me over again, effortlessly pulling me back into this world she’s created around this fun group of characters and the romance and adventures that always occur around them. Her character depth and flowing dialogue make the story unravel with ease, sweeping the reader up in all the emotional turmoil and craziness of good chemistry and new love. I felt myself hanging on every word and interaction in this novel. She gives you just enough angst to set your heart beating faster, but doesn’t make it ridiculously excessive which I always appreciate about her writing. It’s perfectly realistic.

Like Tammy, Chris had always been a bit of an enigma to me in the other books. You could tell he was very much a part of the Onslow Boys group, but he was always silently standing on the side, laughing with the boys, but never actually participating in their hijinks. I really really enjoyed getting to know him in this novel, and he may now very well be my favorite of the group. I also liked getting to know Tammy, someone we were only introduced to in the last book, so I didn’t know much about her. The witty banter between the two was delicious and funny. Quite frankly, I’m surprised the sexual tension between them didn’t catch my Nook on fire. Even when they were sitting together in silence, the knowing looks and gentle touches made every encounter downright combustible.

[And now for my customary sidenote for US readers: Duggan, being an Aussie writer, does use a good bit of Australian lingo in her dialogue and such. However, it wasn't hard to figure out what it was supposed to mean given its placement within the sentence-structuring and how it was used. More so, I think it makes the whole book more authentic.]

Swoons: Initially, they are only in the sweet things he does for her, but eventually they work themselves out of pointed glances and into words. And UNF!

 Swoony Teaser:

“Because if I’d had to choose perfect, I would have chosen you.”

Rec It? Absolutely. This series is fantastic, only making me more fond of the characters and Australian setting with each book. Chris and Tammy were definitely compatible and had chemistry for days. I look forward to reading more about them in the next book and novella, which I’m really excited to read as well. Be on the look out for those.
