Title: Best Kind of Broken
Series: Finding Fate
Author: Chelsea Fine
Published: March 2014
Pixie and Levi haven’t spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are… awkward.
All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they’re forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

My Review: Two characters, both broken and guilt-ridden, both sad and alone, both needing healing…and each other! The story of Pixie and Levi, although heavy with heartbreak and angst is, at times, also light with humor and fun. It’s actually quite amazing how well Ms. Fine is able to intertwine moments of despair with opportunities for a smile or a chuckle! And that’s what makes this book different from other NA books!
Since I’ve read several of Ms. Fine’s YA books, I knew what to expect in terms of the writing style which, as always, was smooth and descriptive. The difference here, is that in this NA book, the voice is more mature. The story, written in dual POV’s, gave me the opportunity to understand the heartache, the desire and the confusion from the perspective of both characters…hearing it in their own words. When dual POVs are done right they make the story more well rounded and that is definitely the case here.
I loved both Pixie and Levi. These characters fought so hard to put the past behind them and to move forward. They found strength in the face of sorrow and humor where they could. Pixie is feisty and stronger than she gives herself credit for. And Levi…well, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Levi is totally swoonworthy. His inner thoughts about Pixie, his devotion to his family and his ability to deal with some rather wacky characters at the Inn, all endeared him to me! And, by the way, their chemistry is through the roof!!
Overall, this is a great read filled with heartbreak, angst, a little bit of humor and a whole lot of sexual tension…what more can you want?!?!
About the Author:
Chelsea lives in Phoenix, Arizona where she spends most of her time writing stories, painting murals, and avoiding housework at all costs. She’s ridiculously bad at doing dishes and claims to be allergic to laundry. Her obsessions include: superheroes, coffee, sleeping-in, and crazy socks. She lives with her husband and two children, who graciously tolerate her inability to resist teenage drama on TV and her complete lack of skill in the kitchen.
