About the Book:

Bobby Beckerson was the American All-Star hockey player–he was the spitting image of perfection to his family. Goofy, sweet and undeniably gorgeous, he had everything but the one girl he wanted: River Ahlers.

River Ahlers is successful in everything but love. She’s been in love with Adam Beckerson since they were kids. Worst of all she’s stuck right in the middle of the brothers dueling over everything and anything, and she doesn’t even know she’s the ultimate prize.

Adam Beckerson was a boy with a guitar, a smile that sunk girls’ hearts and a stone wall around his own. He was anything but perfect, and no matter how hard he tried he was nothing compared to Bobby. Sweet, damaged, with boyish good-looks, nobody thought Adam loved anyone but himself.

Bobby loved River, River loved Adam and Adam only loved himself–or so everyone thought. Then one night everything changes, and as it threatens to destroy everyone involved a tragedy strikes that will break them all…

Review:

This was a quick read with characters you love and some you love to hate.  The story revolves around three main characters whose lives are not only currently intertwined but have been since they were kids.  There’s some angst and the requisite misunderstandings that help the characters finally come to terms with what each of them really wants…and what they’re willing to do about it.

River, Bobby and Adam have been friends since they were children.  But, as they grew up, each realized their relationships were changing.  Adam loves River, Bobby loves River and River loves Adam…and, other than Bobby, no one is admitting it.  It’s enough to make your head spin.  I loved Adam.  Not knowing how to handle his feelings for River, he turned to other women on a regular basis.  But, he couldn’t let River go and, quite often, wore his emotions on his sleeve.  Bobby was funny and sassy and smart but, unfortunately, he was also possessive and overbearing as the book progressed.  Although River was a smart girl with a great job and two amazing guys vying for her attention, I felt that she was too wishy-washy.  She loved Adam and several times I found myself mentally yelling at her to just tell him.  Although I understood she didn’t want to lose his friendship, it was still frustrating…but I think that’s what the author was aiming to do…get us to care about these characters and have them get under our skin.  And that they did!

I feel like I must mention that there were two things that made this a three star book for me.  The first, is how Bobby changes throughout the story in an effort go get the reader to feel a certain way about him.  The second is how the book ended.  I didn’t think that particular ending was necessary and it felt like it was done in order to have fewer loose ends when the book came to a close.  Neither of these things diminished my enjoyment of the book but they’re just elements that could have been different.

Overall I enjoyed this book.  It was a quick read with some interesting characters, some angst and some romance.  All in all, a good read.
