Series: The Trouble Series
Author: Rachel Morgan
Published: April 2014
Three hundred and six days ago, Julia ran away from home. Abandoning her family, friends, boyfriend, and university plans, she fled with no explanation. She can’t hide forever, though, and now it’s time to face the mess she left behind.
Ana will put Forgiven on her second shelf!!
Normally, I try to steer clear of novellas. Too many have left me feeling unsatisfied…wanting more. However, when I found out that Rachel Morgan was starting her series with a short story, I had to make an exception. I loved Ms. Morgan’s Creepy Hollow series and was curious now that she’s entering the contemporary romance arena. I was not disappointed!
Although short, this story was filled with very likeable characters and a storyline that kept me reading. Jules felt like a girl I could call a friend and her emotions were very real. She was intelligent and strong and willing to face her past even though, in reality, she didn’t want to. Her relationship with her sisters was great as well. And the romance…well, it gave me butterflies. Josh was swoonworthy and sweet. He wore his emotions on his sleeve and, he too, wasn’t afraid to fight for what he wanted. I also loved that it was set in South Africa – a place that felt both exotic and like home at the same time.
Just like the book, I’m keeping this review short. But I must say that I’m looking forward to delving into the Trouble series (the first book will be available in June), not only because I love this author, but because, just from this short taste, I can tell she will have me falling in love with her characters and storylines in the books to come!!
