Title: Losing Control
Author: Jen Frederick
Series: Kerr Chronicles
Publisher: self-published
Published: May 27, 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis: I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian’s whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that’s okay.

**We received a copy of this book, but that did not influence the review**

Ana: 4 stars  Another great book by Ms. Frederick!  She seems to have the knack of being able to write characters that are imperfect and had they been drawn together in a different way may not have worked, yet somehow finding the best connection for them so that the reader has no doubt they always belonged together.  Victoria and Ian both have a desperate need…her, to help her mother…him, to avenge his family.  These are huge situations that are all consuming for them and that constitute more than just the average baggage characters normally bring with them into a story.  And I liked that these situations were written that way…that, even as we enjoyed the romance part of the book, we were never allowed to forget these themes.  This story wasn’t just about the relationship, there was more to be dealt with.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  The relationship was explosive…hot…sexy!  And for those of you who like a passionate, confidant, strong, swoony man…Ian is the guy for you!!  He knows what he wants and goes after it with everything he has.  Even if at times it feels like he’s a bit too controlling, you always know it’s because he can’t deny his heart and his desire to have Victoria in his life.  I must admit that she was a bit of contradiction to me.  She could simultaneously feel strong and weak, but I guess love and lust can do that to a girl, so I liked her anyway.  I must let you know that this story is not over and I believe we will see these two again because all is not done.  There is still a storyline to explore and these characters are ready to take it on.  And I, for one, am glad because I think there’s so much more to learn about these two and so much more to enjoy.  And I miss Ian already….

Celeste: 4 stars Ian Kerr is one hot mofo. Strong, bossy, demanding, perfectly mannered, yet perfectly inappropriate. Also, he is definitely dangerous, and lord help me but I can’t resist a book boyfriend like that. Oh, and let’s not forget gorgeous. And then, I loved how tender he was with Victoria’s mother. See, I could go on and on and on and on about Ian, but let’s get to some other topics.

Victoria is lovely (*whispers* I wasn’t a fan of her nickname though). I wished she had more confidence, but then again that was part of her charm. I liked that even though she started to have doubts she ultimately trusted Ian and wanted to believe. I admired her when she admitted she was afraid of being hurt by him.

The romance was crazy hot in some parts and really sweet in others, which made their love affair ring really true. While they were falling in love, they both knew that it happened quickly, but embraced it. They couldn’t get enough of each other and it was deliciously obvious. I also loved how they met (she was delivery girl). They were definitely smitten from the get-go.

There was one scene that was so hot! It was old school  but just made Ian so masculine I was like RAWRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I actually think Malcolm needs a book. He was desperate as well. And criminal activity didn’t seem to bother him so I’m hoping his morals are in the toilet and he just needs a good woman to save him. *eyeballs Ms. Frederick with puppy eyes* ….please give him a book!

One thing that really stood out for me in this novel was the descriptions of all the outfits. Beautiful. I could picture so many of them, and they sounded stunning and absolutely perfect for Victoria, and for Ian too. I love when I get so much detail.

I understood there was some vendetta that was personal for Ian against Howe, but I don’t know if I got the whole gist of it and am hoping more details and emotions are revealed in the next installment. I also hope Ian gets Victoria help so that she can start to overcome her disability and gain more confidence. She is crippled by it, and I was kind of surprised she never got any help for it.

The ending. Hmmm, I love that it continues but I have questions…. So Ian knew? The vendetta isn’t over? I did like how the romance arrives at at a good place, and they come to an understanding where each one of them finally allows the other to shoulder some of their burden and take care of them, as a good solid relationship does.

Would I rec this? Absolutely. If you love strong and dangerous men that have a very sweet side, you need to start this series right away! Happy reading!
