Title: Until Alex
Author: J. Nathan
Publisher: self-published
Published: June 20, 2014
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Synopsis: On the outside, Hayden is every girl’s living breathing fantasy, brooding and devastatingly gorgeous. He spends his nights losing himself in alcohol and faceless girls, but it’s all just a facade. An elaborate cover for the emotionless shell of a man he is. One who harbors too many secrets and destroys lives the way his was destroyed. It’s the reason he avoids relationships and keeps everyone at arm’s length…

Until Alex

Alex’s life just shattered into a million pieces, leaving her with more grief than she knows what to do with and guilt so deep it’s destroyed the carefree girl she once was. Now she’s hundreds of miles from home, living with an aunt she doesn’t know, finishing senior year at a college she’s never been to, and trying desperately to get through a single day without breaking down. She’s never felt more alone in her life…

Until Hayden

The trouble with Hayden is who he wants to be and who he is are in constant flux. And though he’d die before letting Alex learn the truth about him, he can’t be sure he’s strong enough to let her in…or push her away. She’s the one person who just might see the real him.

**I received an advanced copy of this book,
but that did not influence the review**

4.5 brooding overflowing with love stars I loved Alex and Hayden’s story. This novel by Ms. Nathan was about moving on, about believing that you deserve happiness even when life hasn’t been so kind.

These two main characters at first seemed so different on the surface, yet soon connected on levels that were undeniable. Yes, UNDENIABLE! Some of what Hayden and Alex had in common was so tragic, but it really did bring them closer together. You will have to read the story to find out exactly what I’m talking about.

If you want to know what these two were like, well, Hayden was brooding, my favorite type of book boyfriend there is. But just because he was mysterious didn’t mean he didn’t have a heart. He immediately had a soft spot for Alex and it showed just how much he was drawn to her. Alex was strong, but still so vulnerable which was a great combination. But it was her honesty that made me love her so much.

The romance was fantastic, steamy, yet not over the top…perfect. I can’t think of anything else I’d want to have seen because it really was just right.

Now if you want to talk about plot twists, I was kind of surprised at one thing. I didn’t expect that double cross, and to that extent. I love when stuff comes out of left field, yet totally makes sense. I initially was thinking there was a book 2 that could be in the works, but nope. At least not in the direction I originally thought…but I love that I was surprised and totally wrong about a certain character. What am I talking about? I know, I am being vague but want you to know that I loved the twist without spoiling.

I don’t always mention the book cover, but here, the cover is spot on. That is Hayden and that is Alex. So in tune with each other. I don’t know if I love the purple, but the photo captures them just as I would have imagined. Well done!

Perfect ending was perfect. I would have loved an epilogue though, like five years down the road. I know it ended well, but the greedy reader in me wanted even more.

Would I rec this? Yes! I do love characters with lots of baggage and broken hearts, but I love to see them find romance and rise up to become happy. A great addition for your TBR!
