Author: S.R. Grey
Series: Inevitability #1
Published: September 7th 2014
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Suspense
Synopsis: The day my life took an inevitable detour things got a little crazy.
My name is Essalin Brant, but everyone calls me Essa. I attend a small college in a tiny town, and in my twenty-two years of life I’ve never even traveled outside the state of Pennsylvania. You could say my life is pretty boring. I live by the rules. I’m a good girl and nothing exciting ever happens.
. But that’s all about to change.
Enter Farren Shaw. Not only is he older and intimidating, but he’s more sure of himself than any 29-year-old man has a right to be. Did I mention that he’s drop-dead gorgeous? Well, he is. He also happens to be my best friend Haven’s brother. And I would be content with just fantasizing about Farren from afar, but when Haven suddenly goes missing, her gorgeous brother is the only one who believes me when I say she was abducted, even though all signs seem to suggest Haven left town willingly.
I know better, though. As does Farren. So when he asks me to accompany him to search for his sister, I accept.
That’s when the real adventure begins.
Our quest to find Haven takes us across the country. And throughout the time we spend together, I find myself falling for Farren . . . falling hard. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted. But is he really someone I should fear?
Because aside from making me feel things I’ve never felt before, Farren is hiding something. Something big. What could this stunning man be keeping from me? And why? Is Haven’s disappearance somehow connected to his mysterious job?
All I know is that things are about to get real.
Welcome to the Inevitable Detour that has become my life.
**I received a copy of the book for the tour,
but that did not influence the review**
4.5 crazy on the edge of your seat stars You guys, I’m still shaking, my heart has leapt out of my chest and is pounding like crazy. What an intense ride, and man oh man, it is not even over at all. I was drawn in from the moment I met Essa and Haven and couldn’t stop turning the pages. Haven and Essa have a great friendship, with a love that runs deep, so when she was taken I knew that Essa would do anything to get her back.
The storyline was great…plenty of mystery, suspense, and romance. I would be reading away, just thinking everything was settling down, but then it would pick right back up and my blood would be racing through my veins. There were definitely some places I could predict certain parts of the story as I read, as if there was scary music playing in the background, and so many times I wanted to shout at the characters, “no, don’t do it, that is SO DANGEROUS!” but instead I just let my stomach feel queasy and read like a maniac so I could find out what would happen.
The romance was amazing right from the start. Farren is cold, angry, and secretive, but then the frosty personality seemed to all disappear within moments. At first I wasn’t sure I liked it, but then I realized that Essa had an affect on Farren that changed him, just as he changed her. Their romance was absolutely swoony, and Farren is divine. D. I. V. I. N. E.
So yes, the soft side of the romance is lovely, but let’s talk about the ahem, naughtier side too. Yes, it was HOT. Especially that time they…oh wait, I can’t give you any details on that because it would be TOO STEAMY FOR THIS BLOG. Just know if you like a confident and bossy alpha male with a dirty mind, you should read this. Just thinking about that SPOILER HERE SORRY scene makes me start to fan myself.
Loved both MCs. They are confident, strong, loyal, and brave. All the time. I also want to get to know Rick and Haven better. Maybe they will have their own love story one day? Please???
The ending, as I alluded to in the beginning of the review is a cliffy. Big time folks. I also saw it coming and may or may not have been screaming at my kindle, no, no, don’t go with him, it’s a trap. So yeah, I am actually glad book 2 isn’t out right now because I know what some of it will be about, and honestly, I’m not sure I’m ready after I just got through the emotional journey of this one. It is most definitely not for the faint of heart, but it really was so good. So be warned it could be tough, but oh so worth the read.
Would I rec this? YES!
