About the Book:

From the author of the Fate series and The Deep End of the Sea comes a fantastical romantic adventure that has Alice tumbling down the strangest rabbit hole yet.

After years in Wonderland, Alice has returned to England as an adult, desperate to reclaim sanity and control over her life. An enigmatic gentleman with an intriguing job offer too tempting to resist changes her plans for a calm existence, though. Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.

It’s there she discovers villains are afoot—ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?

The review:

What if I tell you that this is the most creative and enchanting book I’ve ever read?  Would it be enough?  What if swear to you that the best way to go into this story is blind…that to experience it without understanding what you’re getting yourself into is truly where the magic is.  What if I ask you to trust me?

If you do choose to trust me even a little bit…stop reading this review right now and start reading this book!

I’m finding it almost impossible to put down in words the love I feel for this story.  It was nothing like I expected and yet everything I wanted.  The plot was surprising and complex and captivating.  It channeled the past, merging it with the present, in a fresh and original way.  The characters felt both familiar and strange…like family and friends I knew intimately long ago…like people I loved but had somehow forgotten.  The writing was flawless, combining adventure, intrigue, madness, friendship and love seamlessly.

The Collector’s Society is not a retelling…it’s a continuation, of sorts.  It reintroduces us to characters we’ve known and loved in the past and brings a new perspective to their stories.  And, although it may take you a while to place where you’ve met some of them before, these characters will crawl back into your heart almost effortlessly.

If you kept reading this review and didn’t immediately grab the book as I suggested above (*disappointed head shake*), you might have noticed by now that I’ve told you almost nothing about the storyline.  I apologize.  But I’m doing this for your own good.  This story needs to be experienced firsthand…it needs to confuse you, to tickle your memories, to take hold of your heart, and to ultimately captivate you on its own.  And I refuse to take part in ruining this adventure for you.  So, go read it and then come back and tell me what you think.

Until then, I leave you with these words…Finn and the White King are mine!  I’ll be happy to argue the point with you when you’re done reading…see you soon!
