Title: The 27 Club
Author: Kim Karr
Publisher: NAL Trade (Penguin)
Published: March 3, 2015
Genre: new adult contemporary romance

Synopsis: You don’t know when… You don’t get to choose if…

When it’s time to join…you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny.

But I do.

And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.

**I received an advance copy of this book,
but that did not influence the review**

5 swoony stars Oh Nate Hanson, for the love of all things bossy, shy and brooding, you are one sexy mofo and I love you. Oh, and this story of how he and Zoey fell for each other is pretty amazing too! The 27 Club is full of romance, chemistry, and about living life with your whole being. The words Ms. Karr wrote brought Zoey’s awakening alive, and she perfectly captured how inspiring it was.

This story was told from Zoey’s POV, so Nate’s exact thoughts were still a mystery to the reader, but it was more than ok because it truly set off his brooding vibe. However, I felt like I could almost taste what he was thinking because Ms. Karr was so good at describing his body language. I loved Zoey, absolutely adored her. She was strong, yet so weighed down by the curse she was sure would take her too. I could feel how crippled she felt from all of it, and I could feel how free she felt when Nate was near. She reached in and grasped her small bit of strength and let it grow. It was like I was a part of it. I’m telling you, I fell in love too.

Let’s be serious now and talk about the smexy times, because I know you want to know. Sweeeeet lawd they were divine…and not always about sex. It was about the closeness, the magnetism of their two bodies, the way Zoey could feel Nate’s breath on her neck. Oh my god, it was so good. Ms. Karr…I love you.

The ending was so so so SO good. I hate when the MCs realize what they want out of life, proclaim love, and boom! The book is over. No, in this story I got my HEA and then got to roll around in all it’s glory and puffy heartedness. I LOVED it.

Is there anything I didn’t like? No. Nothing. Well, I am not a huge fan of the cover, but I did find myself looking at it a lot since I had a paperback of the book…and while I’m not sure it really fits I was fascinated by it.

Would I rec this? YES! If you love romances with plenty of steam, with real and gritty characters, then this book should be a part of your destiny too.

Happy reading!
