Title: Where Sea Meets Sky
Author: Karina Halle
Publisher: Atria (Simon & Schuster)
Published: March 31, 2015
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Synopsis: Joshua Miles has spent his early twenties spinning his wheels. Working dead-end jobs and living at home has left him exhausted and uninspired, with little energy to pursue his passion for graphic art. Until he meets Gemma Henare, a vivacious out-of-towner from New Zealand. What begins as a one-night stand soon becomes a turning point for Josh. He can’t get Gemma out of his head, even after she has left for home, and finds himself throwing caution to the wind for the first time in his life.
It’s not long before Josh is headed to New Zealand with only a backpack, some cash, and Gemma’s name to go on. But when he finally tracks her down, he finds his adventure is only just beginning. Equally infatuated, Gemma leads him on a whirlwind tour across the beautiful country, opening Josh up to life, lust, love, and all the messy heartache in between. Because, when love drags you somewhere, it might never let go even when you know you have to say goodbye.
**I received an advance copy from the publisher,
but that did not influence the review**
4.5 stars I love a good road trip story, and Karina Halle totally delivered with this one. I got to experience New Zealand (ok, not really, but it made me want to plan a trip there!) and it made me fall in love.
The story was so easy to slip into, the writing style was so smooth and rich in detail. From how the characters looked, to where they lived, to the places they saw. I am pretty sure I know how cramped it was to live in Mr. Orange for all those weeks.
I loved Josh every single moment of this book. He wore his heart on his sleeve and his honesty was so refreshing. Gemma on the other hand, I liked her almost all the time…but she played some mind games, and God love Josh, he stuck by her. I know she was afraid, but her hot and cold moods were a lot of work. However, when she was fun she was full of sass and had so much love in her. I am glad Josh loved her enough to wait for her.
You want to know about the
sexy times romance, right? Well, they were in there and they were delicious. Make sure you have a cool drink beside you to bring down the temperature because the chemistry from the start was hot hot hot…but then due to circumstances it cooled down. However, just being friends gave Josh and Gemma time to build a relationship and realize that what they had wasn’t just physical. It became a slower burn, but it gave them the chance to see that life was better when they were together. It took a while for them to get to the other side, but it was oh so worth it.
Sometimes in a review I like to talk about the cover, and today I just want to tell you that it is not only gorgeous, but spot on. It captures Gemma and Josh perfectly in one of their moments. If you read the story, you will see why. Well done!
The ending was tough to get to, but we got our HEA and I was thrilled. It was real, it had flaws, and that is why this story and these characters had so much depth.
Rec this? YES! A great road trip story that leads to an epic romance. It would make your TBR very happy!
