Divorce attorney Blair Hansen is convinced that marriage should be based on practicality, not passion. But as her own wedding approaches, she finds herself remembering her law school boyfriend, the only man she’s ever loved, and regretting what might have been. Then a twist of fate lands Garrett back in her life, and the man who loomed large in her past is suddenly casting a shadow over her wedding, making her question everything. To complicate matters further, the job she loves is in peril, and she can feel the ‘perfect’ life she’s fashioned for herself start to crumble under her feet. Could everything she’s believed about life and love be wrong?

Garrett Lowry is a divorce attorney who’s ready to settle down. The problem is that he can’t find a woman who suits him nearly as well as the one he loved and lost. He broke her heart by playing the field after their break up—something he’s always regretted. But after months of pining for Blair, Garrett stumbles across her in a freak coincidence—and then destiny keeps throwing them together, the coincidences becoming ever more unlikely. He’s convinced it’s a sign they should give their love a second chance, but Blair is engaged to another man—a man who is absolutely wrong for her.

Can Garrett convince Blair that a player once isn’t a player forever, and that happy endings aren’t just for dreamers?

Ana will put The Player on her sec2nd Shelfond shelf!!

Ms. Swank has done it again…provided a story that’s equal parts romance and humor, and characters that will capture your heart immediately.  As always, her characters are strong, smart and caring.  They bring you into their family and let you sit and watch as they handle situations that are difficult, heartbreaking, and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny.  And, ultimately, they’ll have you rooting for them to find their happily ever after.

I loved both main characters in this book although I will admit that it took me a while to embrace Blair.  I wasn’t sure I liked her very much in the first book of the series so she had to win me over…and that she did.  Her strength and determination made her a wonderful female lead and, although she vehemently denied she needed help from them more than once, her relationship with her friends was the kind everyone should have.  And Garrett…ahhhh Garrett!!  Everyone should have a Garrett in their lives!  He’s smart, sexy, and willing to do whatever it takes to have Blair in his life.  Actually, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to ensure she’s happy, even if that means losing her, and not many people would do that.  Their chemistry is strong and their banter is fun and sweet.  There was no doubt these two were made for each other and my heart beat wildly at times when it looked like it may not happen.

The secondary characters were wonderful as well.  From the sleaziness of Neil, to the outrageous behavior of Debra and the no-nonsense attitude of Nana Ruby, these characters added depth to this story.  When the story go too serious, I knew there would be a funny Nana scene or a silly interaction to lighten the mood.  Of course, Blair’s best friends, Megan and Libby were great and I’m looking forward to Libby and Noah’s book!  Also, I’d like to put in a plug for a story about Melissa, Blair’s assistant.  I liked her sass and think she’d be a great leading lady as well.

So, although we’ve all read stories with this plot line before, I think that Ms. Swank added so much originality and humor and so many feels to this story that it makes it quite unique.  This is a fun read that will have you smiling and undoubtedly wishing for a Garrett of your very own. Enjoy!
