Title:  Pucked

Series:  Pucked

Author:  Helena Hunting

Published:  May 2015

With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.

Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.

In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.

The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

Ana will put Pucked on her second shelf!

It’s not often that I get exactly what I was expecting from a book.  But Pucked delivered that for me.  I was looking forward to a fun, fluffy read with great characters, humorous banter, and some hot chemistry…and that’s exactly what I got.  This book was a great mix of laugh-out-loud moments and turn-your-kindle-away-from-the-woman-next-to-you-on-the-train blush worthy scenes.  A great combination of light and sexy!

I loved Violet’s sass and Alex’s unexpected goofiness.  Both these characters were intelligent and fierce, and their chemistry was off the charts.  The story, although sometimes predictable, held my attention throughout.  The writing was good and the secondary characters were well developed, helping  round out the story line.  Both Vi and Alex’s families were hilarious and over the top.  And, as a Canadian girl, I appreciated the well-placed references to my beloved country – even if some of them were stereotypical (because I know those were done on purpose).  Violet’s inner monologue never failed to put a smile on my face and Alex’s sexy ways had my heart beating faster.

So, you may be asking yourself why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.  Two reasons, really.  First, I felt that Violet was a slight bit too melodramatic once the “big conflict” of the story happened.  I get that this is supposed to be the most dramatic part of the book but I still felt that she went a bit overboard in her reactions.  Second, to me there’s a fine line between actions that are sweet and those that are desperate.  Sadly, I felt that, at times, Alex’s gifts and somewhat stalkerish behavior came off as desperate instead of sexy and adorable.  And I wanted sexy and adorable…I didn’t want to roll my eyes.  Now, don’t hate me.  I’m sure I’ll be in the minority with these opinions and, overall, these small issues did not diminish my enjoyment of the book. I still swooned over Alex and definitely loved their romance!

Overall, this was a really fun read! I liked the characters and the story line, and I’d definitely recommend it as a light, fun, quick read that I think you might enjoy as well.  So give it a shot and let me know what you think!
