I received this book for free from the publicist via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Lee Delgado never planned on falling in love with the irresistible Oliver Savoca, son of a Chicago crime lord. Considering that their families are rivals, she knew it could never work. And now that both their fathers have been nabbed on racketeering charges, any real chance at a future with the man she loves has been shot to hell. But a greater blow is yet to come.

Not only does Lee learn that a contract is out on her life, she has reason to believe that Oliver is behind the devastating betrayal. Now she’s working closely—very closely—with Federal Agent Sean Callahan to help bring her man down. But however she’s come to feel about Callahan, Lee is still deeply, hopelessly, unabashedly in love with Oliver.

Where that fearless love takes Lee next is beyond her control—but the risk is worth every beat of her heart.

5 hot, action packed, sexy page turning stars

I read book 1, Outside the Lines, and loved it, so I knew Lee’s story would be good too. But to my delight this installment was even better. It blew me away. The writing, the story, the chemistry, the characters, the suspense…but most of all the romance. Everything was ratcheted up a notch and it was a total home run.

Oliver Savoca. *swoon swoon swoon* Let me tell you, he is the main reason you need to read this book. He is sexy as f*ck all get out. And my god, his mind is filthy and It. Is. Glorious. He is crazy smart, in every way that matters. He is brave and fearless. He is also so honest about his feelings towards Lee that my heart couldn’t help but flutter all over the place. A big, bad, strong (kind of violent) man confessing that he loves someone? *clutches heart*  I was in, so very in.

Then there’s Lee Delgado. She was one of those heroines I just adored and wanted to either be, or have her be my best friend. She was absolutely kick ass. In the previous book I liked and disliked Adri…but Lee, I loved her the entire time, that never wavered, ever. She is resourceful, loyal to her family, brave, and also has a huge heart. She was epic!

On paper Lee and Oliver should never have gotten together, but fate stepped in and they met and could not resist one another. However, the reasons they stayed apart were not the reasons they should have, and once they opened up how they felt and trust was started it really was a beautiful thing. Then there was the sex. Let’s just say it was hot whether or not they trusted each other and only got better and NEVER got old.

But what makes this a 5 star book for me? It’s how I felt when I read it. I can’t describe it except that I loved it and that is all due to the exceptional writing. The world building was so vivid. From the thick humid Florida air, to the cold streets of Chicago, to the hard planes of Oliver’s body…ahem, you catch my drift. And then the suspense was written so smoothly, the details were fed like breadcrumbs leaving me wanting more and reading “just one more page”. It was layered and planned out and executed brilliantly. Ms. Desrochers has serious talent and I will read everything she writes.

The ending was bumpy but fantastic. I knew I’d get my HEA, but it was a nail biter that was for sure. I loved it.

Rec this? Yes yes yes! If it’s any indication that the books will get even better I cannot wait to read the next installment, which I am hoping is Grant’s story. If you love mafia romantic suspense books this is a fantastic addition for your TBR.

Happy reading!
