I received this book for free from the publicist via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Wall Street meets the Sons of Anarchy in the smoldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy new Dirty Money series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones.

How bad do you want it?

The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family's business dealings legitimate. His reckless and ruthless brother, Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit, and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.

Emily is consumed by Shane, pushed sexually in ways she never dreamed of, falling deeper into the all-encompassing passion that is this man. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.

I knew I had to have this book as soon as I read the synopsis. Danger, secrets, mafia men and some sexy times. Yes, please and thank you.

So, I dove in and found the beginning to be a little hard to follow as it was detail heavy with a total info overload. I like it to flow a little more naturally, to get hooked by a chemistry rather than feel like I have to study everything thrown at me. I kept going though, and am glad I did because it suddenly became clear that all I needed to know was that Shane wanted to be legit and his brother and dad didn’t. If I had gotten that right away it could have saved me from putting the book down for a few days, but once I got through the beginning I was in, oh so in.

Main characters – Emily was skittish and mysterious, but then her interactions with Shane…she couldn’t stay away from him, or say no to him. I wouldn’t have been able to either. I just loved his honesty about his attraction to her. It was romantic, sexy and on fire. Which leads me to the chemistry. Oh man, the chemistry was hot and I feel like we haven’t gotten started. It led to this trust between them that was so organic and natural and have I mentioned HOT??

Secondary characters – I liked Jessica and I liked Seth too. They were both loyal and genuine and I want to know more about them personally. They both gave the reader great conversations and banter, part of which made this book so entertaining. They were a huge addition to the story. I also have to say that I’m pretty curious about Derek, Shane’s brother. He is a “bad guy” but I feel like there’s something I don’t know about him, something that drove him to where he is today. I want to know all about his baggage and find out if there’s a good guy in there somewhere. He’s awfully jaded but maybe it’s not too late?? Yes, I’m an endless romantic.

So, I love prologues. Love them. When I get to that moment where it ties in I get all tingly. However, it never happened in this story. To me, the prologue was irrelevant…. unless….unless I CAN’T SAY IN CASE IT’S A SPOILER. dang it. I want to talk about it but will have to wait. *zips lips*

You want to know about the ending? Well it was a cliffhanger and it was a doozy. I don’t normally mind them, but this was big.  In the end the book felt like a prequel because the cliffhanger was so big. I kind of wish I had book 2 in hand and I hope that the intense feelings don’t fade while I wait.

Rec this? Yes! It was smart, sexy and full of mystery. A great addition to your TBR. A plot with many layers and a great romance just waiting to really explode. I have a feeling this ride hasn’t even started yet. Buckle up!

Happy reading!

Suzanne Todd on the INSIDE OUT series: Lisa has created a beautiful, complicated, and sensual world that is filled with intrigue and suspense. Sara’s character is strong, flawed, complex, and sexy – a modern girl we all can identify with.
