Quick Thoughts and Rating:

Ana:  4.5 Stars!!  Once again Ms. Scott has given me a story that broke my heart, played with it for a bit, and then managed to cobble it back together.  Without a doubt, Ginger Scott is a go-to, one-click author for me.  This is yet another wonderful story and it further cements her as one of my favorite writers.

Christina: 4-4.5 Stars!! Ms. Scott always excels at giving us exceptional characters– fully fleshed out, jumping off the page, brimming with fully realized personalities– and I always want to make the heroines my besties and have the heroes be my makeout partner… errr, I totally meant to say my boyfriend. (But I certainly wouldn’t ever deny them a kiss either, just so we’re super clear.)

♥ Review:

Ana: Oh my gosh! Will…Will…he had me at hello.  My heart was his as soon as I found out how much he’d been through, how misunderstood he was, and how many secrets he’d been forced to keep in his heart.  And as the story progressed and I discovered how selfless and giving he was, I was helpless against his charms!  Will Hollister is definitely a yummy book boyfriend…troubled, yes…but also tender, strong and steadfast!  *sigh*  I feel like I want to end my review here but I guess that’s not fair.  After all, you should also know that the heroine in this story is a kick-butt, smart girl who would make a great real-life friend.  Maddy has experienced tragedy in her past and has closed herself off because of it.  But, when Will comes back into her life, she begins to melt.  Their shared sorrow is both a link and impediment when it comes to them building a relationship.  But, the chemistry between these two is strong, hot…and undeniable.  As they find their way back to each other and learn each others’ secrets, their romance heats up and becomes deliciously sweet.  These two had me swooning, sighing, and even blushing from time to time.

This story has so many layers, so much love, and so much heartache that I never knew, from one page to the next, whether I’d be smiling, sighing, or sobbing.  The tenderness with which Ms. Scott handled some very sensitive parts of this story made the heartaches more bearable and the happy moments more intense.  I loved the secondary character and am hoping that we see them again in future stories.  All the characters felt real here…like people I could know and love.  And the story was both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time.  Once again, Ginger Scott captured my heart and soul with her words!

Christina: This book was delicious and I gobbled it up all in one sitting. There was an undeniable chemistry between Will and Maddy from the start, so I was curious to see how she ended up with the other brother, especially because their inner monologue told a completely different story from the lives that they were living/had lived. There seemed to be a lot more mystery to the life that Will had been living since his family’s tragic passing as well as the hardships he’s endured during that time, and with that secrecy came a load of angst. I thought for the most part, Scott really handled the delicate balance of super angsty versus over-the-top drama really well, and the heat of the budding relationship as Will and Maddy found their way back to each other certainly tipped the scale back toward sexy contemporary romance with ease. As characters, I really enjoyed being inside the heads of Maddy and Will, even when the depth of their heartache and guilt was a tough load to manage. Just as I stated earlier, I thought both of them were exceptionally well written, with full personalities and relatable stories– even if I haven’t ever been a competitive swimmer and nowhere near Olympic levels. Ms. Scott didn’t stop with our main characters either. There was a secondary cast that I became connected with as well, especially Maddy’s best friend who I simply adored!

All in all, this was a heartwarming book about getting over heartbreak, finding that a second chance at love could be the best kind of love, and that sometimes the best way to push yourself is to have someone you love and care for to help you do the pushing. I really enjoyed this book!

♥ Rec It?

Ana: DEFINITELY! I loved these characters, this intense story, and the wonderful writing.  Without a doubt, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t pick up this, or any other book by Ginger Scott.  Her words always manage to touch my heart and her characters…especially the boys…always make me swoon!!  Can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!!

Christina: ABSOLUTELY! I seriously couldn’t get enough of Will and Maddy together! As always, I’ll be looking forward to more of Ms. Scott’s words!  . . . And heroes! *ahem*

About the Book:

Fractions of seconds can do lots of damage. One decision can ruin lives. A blink can be tragic. And loving a Hollister…can hurt like hell.

I would know.

They say the average person can hold their breath under water for two full minutes when pushed to the extremes. Will Hollister has been holding his for years. The oldest of two elite swimming brothers, Will was always a dominant force in the water. But in life, he preferred to let his younger brother Evan be the one to shine.

Evan got the girl, and Will…he got to bury all of the secrets. A brother’s burden, the weight of it all nearly left him to drown.

The daughter of two Olympians, my path was set the day my fingertips first touched water. My future was as crystal clear as the lane I dominated in the pool—swim hard, win big, love a Hollister.

My life with Evan burned bright. He gave me arms to come home to, and a smile that fooled the world into believing everything was perfect. But it was Will who pushed me. Will…who really knew me.

And when all of the pieces fell, it was Will who started to pick them up.

In the end, the only thing that matters are those few precious seconds—and what we decide to do while we still have them in our grasp.
