He’s the guy no one likes… Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. At Southern U, he has a second chance to prove that his college legacy isn’t endless debauchery and selfishness. But his reputation precedes him, and his teammates offer a chilly welcome in the locker room. The one person who is willing to accept him is the very woman he should stay away from—his new coach’s daughter. She’s the girl everyone loves… Bryant Johnson’s only goal in life is to make others happy, even at her own expense. One look at her father’s new star quarterback, and she knows that Ace is her next project. With a reputation for being a “jerk whisperer”, Bryant has spent her last three years at college reforming sorry behavior and turning bad boys into the best boyfriends ever. In Ace, though, she’s met with surly resistance and a sizzling attraction she doesn’t expect. Fixing this wounded warrior will be her biggest challenge yet. Not falling for him will be even harder.

Between her big heart and his damaged one, a battle is ensuing. In this game of love, every defense will crumble.

Now, hear me out.  I don’t think you’ll believe me when I first tell you, but this is a story about people who care too much…one who does everything they can to show it, and one who does everything they can to hide it.  Ace is an a**h*le and he’s the first to admit it.  Actually, in the past he may have even been proud of it.  To those around him, he appears to be the owner of an icy heart and absolutely no ability to smile.  However, Jen Frederick has given us an all-access pass to his thoughts in this book and we soon find out that he’s not as big a jerk as he pretends to be.  This boy has been hurt and has taken measures to protect himself.  However, he absolutely cares about his teammates, his mom, and, of course, one Ms. Bryant Johnson.  Ace may have a cold exterior but, on the inside, he just wants to be loved.

If you’ve read the other books in this series, you’ve met Ace before.  He did some not-so-nice things to people he called friends and was a huge player.  As a matter of fact, it was very easy to dislike him…maybe even hate him.  So you might wonder if someone like that can redeem himself – and I’m here to say yes, oh yes!! JR “Ace” Anderson is much more than he appears and once he finds himself the focus of Bryant’s affections, his true light shines.  It didn’t take me long to understand and fall in love with Ace.  And, if I didn’t like Bryant so much, I’d fight her for him.  She’s such a smart, sassy, fierce girl and she’s perfect for Ace.  She’s battling her own sad past and, whether she understands it or not, she needs him too.  In her quest to be all things to all people, she lets them take advantage of her and, in the process, keeps her heart locked up for fear of being hurt.  Luckily, Ace’s combination of jerk and sweetheart are just what she needs.  These two are the ultimate example of finding someone who helps you be more than you thought you could be.

Overall:

Of course, the chemistry is through the roof here.  Hot, hot, hot…with a sprinkle of dirty talk and some sweet romance!  Seriously, I couldn’t get enough of these two and I didn’t want their story to end.  This was another one of my “I hope my boss isn’t watching me read instead of work” books!  Of course, there’s more to the story than just Ace and Bryant…I loved the secondary characters here as well.  Some I had met before and some were new.  I’m hoping that there are enough guys on this team for at least 100 more books.  As always, the writing was wonderful.  The author has a great voice from both the male and female POV and, as always, I love getting the story from the two main characters! I really enjoyed hearing Ace and Bryant’s inner-most thoughts.

Trust me, if you haven’t read a book in this series, you must pick one up (or, heck, pick up any book by Ms. Frederick) – you will definitely not be disappointed!!
