Fallen is the fourth book in the Blood & Roses series. Make sure you check out Deviant, Fracture and Burn prior to reading this instalment.
For over two years, Sloane Romera has pinned everything on finding Alexis. Life was going to get better. Easier. Happier. The nightmare of having a missing sister was supposed to end, and everything was supposed to go back to normal. However, now that she’s found her sister, Sloane is discovering that life has a way of ridiculing what we expect of it.
Nothing is easier.
And ‘normal’ is falling for a man who might never be able to feel the same way.
A lengthy history of breaking things with his fists has given Zeth Mayfair a fairly good idea of how to get his own way. But when his goal, the one, single woman on the face of the planet that he’s truly ever wanted, can only be obtained by fixing things instead of destroying them, how can he adjust a lifetime of violence in order to make her his once and for all? And how can he make sure that she is safe?
The first part is going to take time. But the second part… The second part is easy.
He must kill Charlie Holsan.
I really got into this installment. I’m obviously vested, but it was all the action that made this particular one really intense. I found myself biting my nails with every page turned. Fallen really stressed me out, but in a really good way – it was crazy and just the right amount of everything to keep me tearing through these novellas.
Sloan and Zeth’s romance continued to grow. I loved the organic feel to it – it was so natural – and these two slowly but surely kept going in the direction of falling in love. They did dance around it to some degree, but I think that was the way they each were dealing with the realization that they were in love. That was the best part! And my god, the wild sex that they had, so crazy. Not sure I was really buying into all of it, but for the sake of the characters I went with it. I found myself, like Sloane, dying for the small intimate touches that she wasn’t getting. I cannot wait for more.
Sloan really headed over to the dark side in this book and that made me kind of sad. Her whole career, everything…was just thrown out the window. However, if I were her I would have done the same thing and it was hard to wrap my head around.
There are a lot of parts to this book and just as Zeth said at one point, the jigsaw pieces are just starting to fall into place. I really feel like we’ve been given all the information but I don’t have all the dots connecting each piece. Trust me when I tell you that the story has gotten really good.
I’m dying to see how the Duchess and Sloan’s sister both play into this. Also, Lacey has a huge part in this and I am not sure exactly how that will turn out either. I think whatever I’m expecting, I’m probably wrong and I love it. And of course we can’t forget to mention the bad guys….and by bad I mean horrible and really, really terrible and evil. Like Charlie. I’m terrified for what comes next.
The ending was a perfect place to stop this story. It’s very clear that there is a lot more about to happen, but it was a very good place to take a breather. I also really liked the intimate feeling we got *just* as this ended. My heart might have squeezed a little bit. Things are definitely not good right now and a lot of people are in a lot of danger. However, Sloane and Zeth are solid and I’m so ready to jump in to book 5.
Rec it? Definitely. If you already read this far you have got to keep going because it’s getting better and better. The last installment before this was a little jilted, but now the pieces are falling together and I’m absolutely addicted to the story. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. If you love a romantic suspense this is a great addition for your TBR.
