Goodreads

An epic, romantic, and action-packed fantasy inspired by the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, about a bastard princess who must take on an evil fae to save her brother’s soul, from C. J. Redwine, the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen.
Perfect for fans of Graceling and the Lunar Chronicles.

The world has turned upside down for Thad and Ari Glavan, the bastard twins of Súndraille’s king. Their mother was murdered. The royal family died mysteriously. And now Thad sits on the throne of a kingdom whose streets are suddenly overrun with violence he can’t stop.

Growing up ignored by the nobility, Ari never wanted to be a proper princess. And when Thad suddenly starts training Ari to take his place, she realizes that her brother’s ascension to the throne wasn’t fate. It was the work of a Wish Granter named Alistair Teague who tricked Thad into wishing away both the safety of his people and his soul in exchange for the crown.

So Ari recruits the help of Thad’s enigmatic new weapons master, Sebastian Vaughn, to teach her how to fight Teague. With secret ties to Teague’s criminal empire, Sebastian might just hold the key to discovering Alistair’s weaknesses, saving Ari’s brother—and herself.

But Teague is ruthless and more than ready to destroy anyone who dares stand in his way—and now he has his sights set on the princess. And if Ari can’t outwit him, she’ll lose Sebastian, her brother…and her soul.

Quick Thoughts and Rating: 4.5 stars! The Wish Granter is Rumpelstiltskin like you’ve never envisioned him before, yet he still carries that sinister edge we learned to expect from him from our younger days. Told in alternating third person between our cunning heroine, the broken hero, and our vicious fae villain, this book will take you on an enchanting tale that rides the precarious balance between the ruthless and the valiant . . .and how sometimes you have to be a little of both to survive in this world.

♥ Review: This book has a little of everything to quench every reader’s thirst: paranormal magic, fantasy elements, a touch of mystery-thriller suspense, and a cute romance. With multifaceted characters, on both the good and bad sides of this showdown, you’ll traverse this story of political warfare between a bastard-born brother and sister duo turned rulers versus a centuries old fae who is out to take over the world, use people like pawns by whatever means necessary, and make everyone bend to him. Redwine creates the worst villains in the best, most wicked way possible. So, it was only right that she have a brilliant-minded heroine and a good-hearted hero to stand up to him. I poured through these pages, anxious to see how it would all unfold, and the conclusion of this book was every heart-thudding, pulse-pounding ending I wanted it to be. There is a romance, but it is a super slow burn in a wonderfully, torturous way. I really enjoyed the journey these two took with one another through protector, friendship, and then more. It felt very natural and there were definitely some mega swoons in there.

All in all, I really enjoyed the whole of this book. I liked that the author keeps enough of the base of these retellings in there so that the story feels familiar, but then she adds enough of her own twists and originality in there to really keep you turning the pages. I’ve been really impressed with the books she’s delivered so far, and I can’t wait to see what adventure she has in store for us next.

Note: These are more like companion novels as each of these installments (so far) have read like complete stand-alones.

Teaser Quote: I have loads of highlighted text on my kindle. Watching this slow unfolding between this two was such a pleasure to witness. It read very naturally and heartfelt.

“Mmm, compliments and a full breakfast. You sure do know the way to a girl’s heart, don’t you?”
“I know yours,” he said quietly without looking at her.

♥ Rec It? Very much so! This book was such an emotional journey through both the terrifying and loving parts of humanity and monsters. Redwine continues to impress me with her takes on fairytales and I can’t wait to see which childhood classic she’ll be reintroducing us to next. I have no doubt it will be amazing no matter what!

♥ A very special thanks to Balzer + Bray and Edelweiss for providing me with an advanced copy of this title.
