We’re celebrating the release of
A BOY LIKE YOU by Ginger Scott!
About the Book:
They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed
to save, but I know who saved me.
We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me
from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a
blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.
And then he disappeared.
Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While
death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with
scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into
darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has
taken away my desire to dream.
I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they
weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.
He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer,
and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for
him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first
saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes
constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it
He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else.
Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.
This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew,
is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from
Dear future reader of A Boy Like You:
I’m not going to spend time telling you about the book because the story is unique and I think you need to experience it for yourself. I’m also not going to spend time flailing about how much I loved it even though my heart beats faster just thinking about it…and, over a week after having read it, I can’t seem to get it out of my mind. What I am going to do is to give you some advice that I hope will help you as you immerse yourself in this amazing story.
First, give yourself permission. Permission to cry, to laugh, to feel hurt, to giggle…to fall in love. Allow yourself to feel everything because there is so much to experience here. There are so many emotions as you turn these pages, and you won’t quite be over one before another hits you. Your heart will beat faster, your eyes will tear up…and eventually leak, your very soul will feel the joy, the sadness, the love.
Second, take your time. Don’t rush this one – no matter how much your brain demands that you turn those pages faster. Savor it, enjoy every page and every word…allow it to seep into your heart. Become friends with Wes, Joss, and the others, and allow them to carry you into their story. Pace yourself because this book ends all too soon!
Third, put it down occasionally and think about what you’re reading. Construct your own theories about the mystery that is Wes Stokes. Who is he and what might he be hiding? How much do you love him? Consider how quickly he won your heart. Feel irked by his secretive side, and feel enamored by his charm and sweetness. Compare your experiences to those of Joss. Where have you been luckier or, perhaps, felt the same pain? When has your heart beat as fast and felt as full as hers? Applaud her strength and sympathize with her struggles. And, even if your life is very different, recognize that, somehow, you’ve been able to relate to them. But, if you’re tempted to ignore this advice (as you will undoubtedly be), refer to my second point.
Fourth, embrace the fact that you are in awe of Ms. Scott’s talent. Be conscious of how she picks the perfect words, how she strings them together seamlessly, and how she brings the story to life. Feel the love she’s poured into this book and embrace the part of her soul that she’s left within those pages for you to discover.
Lastly, let yourself feel the frustration of having to wait until May for the next installment but be thankful that you have experienced this story…and that it’s yours to read, feel, and love over and over again.
Enjoy it and come back to tell me what you think!!
