In the sequel to Ruined, the romance of The Selection and the epic stakes of Red Queen come together in a story of revenge, adventure, and unexpected love.

Emelina Flores has come home to Ruina. After rescuing her sister Olivia from imprisonment in rival kingdom Lera, Em and Olivia together vow to rebuild Ruina to its former glory.

But their fight has only begun. Olivia is determined to destroy everyone who acts against Ruina, but Em isn’t as sure. Ever since Em posed as Prince Casimir’s betrothed in Lera, she’s started to see another side to this war. And now that Cas has taken the throne, Em believes a truce is within reach. But Olivia suspects that Em’s romantic feelings for Cas are just coloring her judgement.

Em is determined to bring peace to her home. But when winning the war could mean betraying her family, Em faces an impossible choice between loyalty and love. Em must stay one step ahead of her enemies—and her blood—before she’s the next victim in this battle for sovereignty.

Quick Thoughts and Rating: 4.5 stars! Heart-stopping action, surprising swoons, and badass girls and guys made this book an epic ride from beginning to end.  Once I finally got to settle in, I didn’t stop until I was closing my kindle. I need the last installment as soon as humanly possible.

♥ Review: Ms. Tintera slays it every time. When I was first starting this sequel, I was worried because I felt a little lost due to the fact that I didn’t have time to reread Ruined (the first installment, of which you can find my 5-star review of it here), but it wasn’t long before I regained my footing in the fantasy world that this lovely author has created. And when I settled in, I mean I didn’t leave my couch for hours other than to feed my family (I know, I’m such a provider), and even then my kindle was attached to my hand. Amy Tintera knows how to build her momentum and her books’ pacing always has the perfect crescendo, so don’t be surprised to find yourself breathless and your pulse pounding by the time you reach the end. I don’t want to go into specifics again for this installment either because a lot of what I’d want to touch on comes tied to specific spoilers, but I can say that I loved the plot twists and betrayals around every corner. Some you know to watch out for and others definitely sneak up on you. I also firmly believe that Ms. Tintera hasn’t finished shocking us yet with how the conclusion of the last chapters sets up the final book. With characters you’ll love to love and others you will love to really hate– I’m talking serious loathing here, guys–the dynamics in personalities will have you championing some characters and wishing with all your might for the demise of others. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever said so many times in a book “{Character} has got to go! Someone needs to kill them with a quickness!”

All in all, Avenged was an engaging experience that kept me on my toes (quite literally, at times, when I had to pace the floors because I was afraid for my beloveds), and I’ll be waiting with bated breath for more!

♥ Teaser Quote: *cue swoonage*

Em’s eyes flicker to something over his shoulder. “So, uh, you and Violet aren’t . . .”
     “She’s no one’s second choice.”
     “What?”
“That’s what she told me. She said she would never be my second choice.”
A smile twitched at Em’s lips. “Have I ever mentioned how much I like Violet?”
“Yeah?” Cas asked with a laugh. “She’s your new best friend?”
“I think so. She just seems really great.”
Cas chuckled, rolling onto his back and holding his arms open. Em scooted forward gingerly and rested her head on his chest. He ran his hand into her hair, kissing the top of her head.
“There’s never been anyone but you, Em.”

Overall:

♥ Rec It? Absolutely! Tintera knows her way around great characters and plots, and this book is certainly filled to the max with both. I’m not sure how exactly she’s going to polish off this trilogy, but I know it’s going to be amazing no matter what! Gimme!

♥ A very special thanks to HarperTEEN and Edelweiss for providing me with an advanced copy of this title.

Full of giggles, flails, snark and Southern endearments. Avid Reader. Lover of swoony boys, kickass heroines, yummy kissing scenes, and pretty prose.

I like to draw hearts in the sky (eternal optimist) and wish on stars (forever dreamer). Documentaries, sweet tea, sleep, and brightly colored knee-socks are a few of my favorite things. ♥
