Night time is the right time…
Gwendolyn Kidd has met the man of her dreams. He's hot, he's sexy, and what started as a no-names-exchanged night of passion has blossomed into a year and a half-long pleasure fest. Sure, it's a little strange that he only appears in her bed at night, but Gwen is so sure he's the one, she just can't turn him away…
Hawk Delgado knows more about Gwen than she could ever imagine. She's gorgeous, headstrong, and skittish about relationships. But Hawk is facing his own demons, demons that keep him from connecting with anyone. Yet when Gwen is drawn into Denver's lethal underground scene, Hawk's protective nature comes out full force. The problem is, when Gwen gets a dose of Hawk's Alpha attitude in the daylight, she's not so sure he's the one anymore….
A new adult ex-military romance? YES PLEASE. That’s what caught my eye when I saw this book, not to mention the tons of great reviews, so I decided it was time to read my first Kristen Ashley story. I’m so glad I did! The reason this book was so good for me was because of the characters Hawk and Gwen. I absolutely loved them. I loved their depth, I loved their personalities, I loved how they were together and I couldn’t get enough of all of it. The story didn’t quite pull me in as much, but the characters and their complexity which made them so real, that’s what sealed the deal for me. I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Ashley has written.
The story was a little wild, and I’m not sure how much I believed. While it was still enjoyable and written well so I could follow, I didn’t think the whole thing was plausible. The whole mystery man thing was absolutely ridiculous, but it made me laugh because it was so ridiculous. I wish that Gwen and Hawk had met some other way, however I went with it, but that being said I have to knock off a half to a whole star.
For me the book was about the physical attraction that turned into a romance. Gwen started to fall for Hawk as soon as she met him in the daylight. However, personal baggage and past relationships kept them from giving 100% so it was definitely a work in progress. As a romantic, I was so into the two of them working through the baggage to make it work.
Gwen was great. She was strong, but real so she didn’t come off as obnoxious. I loved Gwen so much of the time, but I have to say there was one point when I was got very upset with her. She was being very selfish and cold and I couldn’t understand how her character could act like towards Hawk. She was such a good person who cared so much about other people. She just couldn’t see beyond herself and that made me disappointed in her. I guess it was part of the story, but I just couldn’t 100% buy it because it didn’t match up with her personality that I had gotten to know.
Hawk, oh let’s talk about Hawk. Sinfully hot. Cocky, but I don’t believe he is as bossy as he pretended. I absolutely loved Hawk. He was everything I like in a character: he had secrets, he had baggage, he was hurt, he was brooding, he was sexy, he was bossy, he was kind…he was perfect.
The secondary characters were pretty good, and even though I honestly couldn’t remember the difference between Camille and Tracy, I liked them both! I also am pretty dang excited to jump into Mitch Lawson’s story. Honestly, I might just read his book next. I liked how straight up he was and I wonder why the hell he’s single.
As we got to the end of the story there was a few scenes that made me feel so emotional, and I did not see that heartbreak coming! I could just feel the absolute loss and hurt and pain from the past, but also happening at the moment and it killed me. I loved the depth of the relationship and how it struck a chord with me. The ending was a little over-the-top, but that went along with the storyline. I also know know characters always have to get to the other side… but I just didn’t love it. However, the epilogue gave me what I needed and let me know what happened so I really felt like I could enjoy the happy ever after and bask in it.
Rec it? YES! Absolutely if you love characters that you can’t stop thinking about after you put the book down this is a must for your TBR. I’m going to look right now to see who the next book is about. but what I do know is that Kristen Ashley definitely has a talent for writing as I could see in the strength of her characters. This was my first Kristen Ashley, book but definitely not my last.
