From the New York Times bestselling author of Archer's Voice, Mia Sheridan delivers a heartwrenching new stand-alone contemporary romance.

A broken woman . . .

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.

A man in need of help . . .

Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.

Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .

Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

Ms. Sheridan has an incredible ability to grab my heart and fill it with happiness, with sadness, with anger, and with hope.  And she can also squeeze it and shatter it into a million pieces.  But, believe it or not, it always makes me want to go back for more.  Her words touch me and, because of that, it’s worth the heartache and the inevitable book hangover.  Once again, she’s managed to share a story that both filled my eyes with tears, and managed to put a smile on my face, without feeling like I had whiplash.  The transitions between the heartbreak and the joy were seamless…like being in boat on calm seas  and knowing in advance that sometimes things would get rough, but also having the knowledge that if you hold on tight, the ride will be worth it.

Ellie (Crystal) is broken.  Left with an uncaring father by her dying mother when she was a child, she’s grown up without love and without understanding how strong she really is.  She’s developed a tough exterior to keep the heartache away.  She’s experienced too much sadness and doesn’t want it to happen again.  Gabriel has a very dark past, having experienced something as a boy that changed his entire life.  Yet, he’s got hope and he wants to move forward.  He longs to get control of his life and reach for bigger and better things.  Their road to happiness requires that they climb a mountain and battle past demons, fear, and confusion.  However, despite the obstacles, it was a no brainer to  root for them from the very first page.  I believed in their strength and their determination and, even though there were twists in the road and hurdles in their path, I pictured their HEA from the very beginning.  The world has been a difficult place for Gabriel and Ellie and my heart leapt at the idea that they could find true happiness.

This is a beautiful story, one that will feed your heart and soul…one that will fill you to bursting with knowledge that true love exists and can overcome anything.  It’s a sweet romance, beautifully written, and totally captivating.  It’s book that you need to add to your TBR or, better yet, one that should be at the top of your list…run, don’t walk.  You need this book in your life!
