They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right. No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking. He is my forbidden, shiny apple. The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth. He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend. One thing you should know before you judge me; I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first. Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance. Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.
They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right. She sets my mind on fire. All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart. In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius. Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart. This time, I dare it to try. Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus. Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight. And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.
Loved. I’m not sure if I need to fan myself or have a hug. Which is kind of totally awesome. I didn’t expect to be so emotional invested, but it happened from the very first page.
While Ruckus is a stand alone story, I had read Viscous (book 1), but not recently. You know what, I wish I read them back to back because I’m so greedy and wanted to bask in every single emotion and detail. I have the worst memory…ever. Still, Ms. Shen gave enough details so that my memory was mostly refreshed.
Why was this story 5 star worthy? First it’s the writing style. It’s effortless. It’s not staged, fake feeling or forced. It’s just real, it felt so organic. Basically, an author has this talent…or not….and Ms. Shen has it in spades.
The second reason this story is 5 star worthy is the characters. Layered, brave, strong and weak at the same time. Dean was so very flawed and I loved him for it. He was tough on the outside but his heart was all about Rosie. I loved Rosie because she too, was tough on the outside, but so kind and selfless inside despite all the reasons she could have been a total crab.
Separately they were great, buy omggggggg I loved Dean and Rosie together because it was f*ck hot chemistry – they were meant to be. The dirty talk was so divine, delicious, mmmm mmmmm mmmmm.
The storyline wasn’t overdone. It was just right. It was Dean and Rosie’s love story and that was front and center. I expected most of the bumps in the road of this story, but the point wasn’t to have plot twists (although I love them!) it was to enjoy the journey and fall in love even though it was all so fragile. The fragility is what made me just throw my whole self into the book.
Rec it? Yes! If you like gritty stories that pull at your heart strings while still being able to get it on, this is an absolute must for your TBR. Ms. Shen can write romance like nobody’s business, I’m totally onto the next book!
ps! If you must buy it for the cover alone I won’t judge you!
