A political golden boy and the woman of his dreams take the risk of their lives in a sexy romantic comedy of strange bedfellows and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne.
Fresh off being named Citizen magazine’s Man of the Year, New York City’s youngest mayor, Robert Davenport, decides it’s time to strategize. Next move: a bid for the governor’s seat. In his way: an incumbent with a flawless reputation. He also has an Achilles’ heel: an estranged wild-child daughter with a past so scandalous it could be Robert’s ticket to victory. And a charm so irresistible it could be Robert’s downfall. Rebellion is a thing of the past for Adeline Blake. As New York’s premier event planner, she’s all about reform and respectability. Then she’s approached by Robert to organize the party of the season. Curious, considering he’s her father’s most formidable opponent. And alarming, too. Because Addie can’t help but fall for the righteously popular candidate with the movie-star smile.
Now it’s Robert’s choice. Does he pursue a future that holds his legacy? Or the woman who holds his heart?

Whenever I read a Lauren Layne book I know that I’ll get a story that will leave me feeling good at the end no matter the ups and down that happen between opening the front cover and closing the back one. Once again, she’s given us a story with interesting characters and a great plot – this time politics – that takes the reader on the adventure required to build a fun romance in what seems to be an impossible situation.
Robert is the charming Mayor of New York city and his next step is to throw his hat in the Governor’s race. With politics, as with life, we all hope to have an advantage that will get us what we want. For Robert, that advantage could come from building a relationship with Addie, the long lost daughter of the current Governor. Through this relationship he may learn some vital information. And he does…but it’s not what he thinks. What he learns is that he’s ready to allow someone into his life, that he’s been alone for too long, and that Addie is his perfect match. But, between that realization and the final outcome we have some misunderstandings, some arguments, and a whole lot of fun. Both Robert and Addie were relatable characters, the kind you might want as friends in real life.
This was a quick read with some humor, some drama, and a whole lot of romance. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters and, as always, enjoyed the happy ending. If you’re looking for a story that will have you smiling throughout and leave you feeling content and completely satisfied with the outcome, this may just be the story for you!
