From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.
Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am. Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

From an adorable meet-cute to a whirlwind romance and a budding relationship that ends all too soon…and that’s only the first few chapters.  The real drama begins when these two reconnect a year later!  This second chance romance, filled with great banter and chemistry, was a fun read.  I really enjoyed the characters and loved watching their roller coaster ride.

This is the first book in the spin-off series for the Pucked series and it definitely started out strong.  Rook and Lainey meet each other when the universe decides that they both need it.  They get to spend a few weeks together in Alaska and the sparks fly.  But the true angst begins when they reconnect.  I loved that this tough hockey player was actually a softy and I swooned over him more than once (ok…many times).  Rook is caring, sweet, and has a huge heart.  And he’s a perfect match for Lainey who’s strong and smart and fierce.  As these two learn to get over the lies that have kept them apart, they find out that heartbreak is sometimes worth it if you can find your soulmate.  I love a good win-your-girl-back story and this one had many wonderful moments that made my heart happy.

I really enjoyed seeing the Pucked characters as part of this story as well.  I’m always happiest when a book has strong, likeable secondary characters and, in this case, the characters were as loveable as we knew they would be.  Overall, I think this is a great beginning to a fun new series and, lucky for me, the second book is waiting for me on my kindle.  Looking forward to jumping in and getting immersed in Ms. Hunting’s hockey world again!
