Two years after the man she loved was killed in Afghanistan, Morgan Bartley is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. The reno on her dilapidated beach house in the Outer Banks might be just the distraction she needs to keep her debilitating anxiety attacks at bay and begin to heal her heart…if she can ignore the ridiculously handsome guy next door. At twenty-eight, single-dad Jackson Montgomery’s life revolves around his five-year-old daughter and his job as a search-and-rescue pilot for the coast guard. He’s no stranger to saving a damsel in distress, and though his gorgeous new neighbor is clearly in distress, she’s no damsel. She’s stubborn as hell with walls a mile thick, and the dog tags hanging from her rearview mirror give him a pretty good clue as to why. It doesn’t matter that their attraction is undeniable―she swore she’d never fall for another pilot, let alone a military man. There are some wounds time can’t heal, and some fears too consuming to conquer.

She’s a barely breathing heartbreak on the edge of recovery. He’s a crash waiting to happen.Together they could have it all…if they can endure the coming storm.

The Review:

All the stars…seriously…all the stars!  I thought I loved this series but I had no idea how Morgan and Jackson would take my adoration to the next level.  This story broke me into a million pieces, tossed them out into the ocean, and somehow still managed to make me feel whole and totally content.  I don’t know how she does it but each new book from Rebecca Yarros burrows itself deeper into my heart than the one before.

I’m emotionally exhausted and yet so completely and utterly in love with everything about this book that I want to pick it up and read it again right now!  Why?  Because for every complication there’s a glimmer of hope, for every tragedy there’s tiny bit of joy, and for every heartbreak there’s the undeniable pull of love.  Ms. Yarros both decimated by heart and filled my soul.  I adored Morgan’s tenacity, fierceness, and her determination to move forward.  I fell head over heels for Jackson, the swoony, sweet, sexy, single dad who loves boldly and unapologetically even in the face of what some might feel is a lost cause.  Together, these two were perfect.  They challenged each other, they pushed each other, and they completed each other.

I’m not telling you much here about the story because this is something you’ll have to experience for yourself.  However, I will tell you that there is zero chance you won’t fall in love with the story and with each and every character including Jackson’s daughter Fin who stole the show more than once.  Take it from me.  If you’re looking for a book to help you completely forget the real world for a while, a story to grab you heart and soul, and a romance that you’ll never forget, look no further…this is the book for you!
