Secrets, desires, and exquisite pie. It’s all in a day’s work at The Company.
Growing up, I was the rough guy from the wrong neighborhood who couldn’t catch a break. Posy was the pampered girl I tried to impress. But all she gave me was a single kiss before I had to skip town. Now I’m back, and the tables are turned. Posy runs a struggling pie shop. I’m the VP of a secretive billion-dollar security company. Not that I can tell her. There’s a murderer on the loose in New York, and he seems to spend a lot of time at Posy’s shop. It’s my job to identify him before he can harm a hair on her pretty head.Going undercover as Posy’s new barista wasn’t my idea. I don’t even drink coffee. But now I have to call her “boss,” and do everything the curvy perfectionist asks of me. I’d forgotten how much we infuriate each other, and that she somehow fills me with both irritation and desire in the same breath. There’s nobody more skilled at stealth ops than me. I can bring this killer down. Right after I take a cold shower. And just as soon I figure out how to make a skinny peppermint latte with milk poured in the shape of a kitten…

*Note:  This book was provided to The Book Hookup by the Author but that did not in any way influence this review!

This is the second book in this series and I loved it just as much as the first.  A second chance romance, some mystery and a great cast of secondary characters…what’s not to love?!?  Once again Ms. Bowen has given me a story filled with not only romance (and, yes, there was some very lovely romance) but also humor and relatable characters, ones who are determined to make something of themselves, who want to accomplish goals and be successful, even when life is challenging.

I loved Posy and Gunnar from the very beginning.  I enjoyed hearing about their past and watching them come to terms with their present.  And, I adored their witty banter and fantastic internal monologues.  These two were meant to be and I was silently pushing them together, telepathically of course, page after page.  I couldn’t wait for them to realize what an amazing couple they would make and to watch those fireworks go off.  As always, the author had me head over heels in love with the chemistry these two had and even managed what many authors before her have failed to do…have me just as engrossed in the suspense as I was in the romance.  Seriously, there have been other books where I skimmed over the mystery plot just to get to the love story, but not here because both elements captured my attention and my heart.

Of course, I enjoyed the secondary characters just as much as I always do in Ms. Bowen’s books because there’s always a very good reason for her to include them and they add so much to each scene they’re in.  And, now I’m desperate for Max’s book.  I guess that’s the true sign of a great series – you’ve barely finished the current book and you’re already anxiously awaiting the next.  So, the bottom line here is that this secret spy/pie baker story captured my heart and threw in some twists I didn’t see coming…hugely enjoyable in every way!
